Ken

Something about you draws me in, and I need to understand what it is

There wasn’t a response, but Ken hadn’t expected one. It was still disappointing, and he turned in his sleep more than usual.

He stilled around midnight, when he felt his usually hyperactive cat land on top of him, nuzzling the softer skin of his inner elbow until he was building a cocoon for her to cuddle in.

Deep breath in and out, Ken continued focusing on the simple action until sleep claimed him. Or until he heard his phone buzzing.

Whatever came first, so long as he never spoke of this to another soul.

CHAPTER4

nathan

“You were in a mood tonight.”

Nathan sighed, his whole body still burning as he forced it to meet Marcus’s gaze.

Not only was Marcus someone who shared his dislike for the higher ups, he was also one of the few Doms in their community who was single.

Most people were poly or happy to establish nonsexual arrangements, but Nathan didn’t like to get in those, afraid it resembled playing with fire a bit too much for comfort.

“Yeah,” Nathan’s voice croaked. He cleared his throat before he could meet Marcus’s honey eyes again. “Thank you, Sir.”

“My pleasure.” Marcus’s voice was nice against his ear, even though it wasn’t enough to get rid of the buzzing under his skin that had him itching—the one that had prompted him to go to the club and ask Marcus for an impact session with whichever tool he chose.

He hadn’t cared. He’d just wanted the physical pain to focus on rather than the stupid fantasies playing in his head until they crashed to nothing but specks of dust.

“Will you let me drive you home, pup?”

Nathan shivered.

Marcus was also one of the few Doms in their community who took him seriously when he said he was into puppy play, one of the few who had complimented the new gear he’d only felt brave enough to put on a couple of times.

No one needed to know that last bit.

Nathan still remembered to nod to the question, though.

Marcus rubbed his arm, held him without protest even when he was fully covered by an army of blankets, and Nathan wasn’t sure what the Dom could get out of this.

“Thank you.” Marcus was affectionate, pressed his lips against the top of his head, inhaling his scent. Nathan just couldn’t get into it, couldn’t fully relax or let go like he’d wanted to. “Drink some more water and we can head out.”

“You’re not my Daddy.” His own derisive tone surprised even him.

It also surprised Marcus, who leaned back, stared at him with a frown Nathan hadn’t meant to put there.

“No, I’m not. But you’re still the boy I’ve just finished playing with, which makes you my responsibility. You got me?”

Nathan nodded, the quiet scold clear in the Dom’s tightened jaw.

He didn’t want to be like this.

“Sorry, Sir.”

“It’s okay.” Marcus sighed, one second later pushing a bottle of water in Nathan’s hands. “I know you struggle sometimes.”

“I don’t,” he balked.
