“Knock it off, Chase. I just need some basic things, like a toothbrush and toothpaste.” And a case of wine to get me through the night.
“Linda keeps that kind of stuff stocked.”
I clenched my jaw. Who the hell was Linda?
“Linda’s the house manager. Keep up, Mitchell.”
Had I said that out loud again? Shit, I really needed to pay better attention to what came out of my mouth.
“But if you really feel the need to head to the store, there’s a grocery store in town. Right off Main Street. We need some food.”
He lifted the toolbox off the ground and started toward his truck. I ran to catch up with him. “Well, if you give me a list, I’ll go get some things.”
“No need. I’ll go with you.”
“I don’t need a chaperone, Hanover.”
The toolbox in his hand landed with a clang before he turned to me. “I’m aware of that. But in case you haven’t noticed, we’re up against a time crunch.” He gestured overhead. “It’ll go faster if I drive since I know where we need to go.”
He made a good point, but I didn’t have to like it. I threw up my hands. “Fine, let’s go.”
“I knew you’d see it my way.”
