I turned back and looked at Chance. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For everything.” I didn’t know how else to explain it to him.
He simply nodded once, and understanding passed between us. “Go get your girl.”
I jogged halfway home before I slowed down to make a phone call to my agent.
“Liz? It’s Chase.”
“Well, well. Nice to hear from the Golden Boy.” Her voice was both welcoming and fear-inducing for me. Under that snarky tone, she was glad I called. Lord knew she bothered me enough.
“Yeah. Listen, I need your help.” I blew out a breath. “I’m ready.”
I didn’t need to tell her more. She knew exactly what I meant. By the tone of her voice, she had that feline ready-to-take-on-the-world smile on her face. The one her opposing party never wanted to see. It was part of the reason I hired her.
“It’s about damn time. What you got in mind?”
