He didn’t even want to think about what it meant that he still went home every night instead of sleeping on his office couch.

Landon wasn’t wrong, and that was what stuck in his craw the worst. Given her reactions and the fact that she was on a guy hiatus, Megan was game for the casual thing. She’d given all indications she was interested, which actually surprised the hell out of him. He’d dated, fucked, Netflix and chilled—whatever the kids were calling it these days—with his fair share of beautiful women.

But Megan? She was on another level with all that dark hair, hazel eyes, and banging body. But he also liked her. She was funny, thoughtful, and smart. And while he didn’t know the whole story about her divorce or why she was leaving Nashville, there was no doubt she was strong. Her ex was a fucking douche to let her go. Any man would be lucky to have such a woman at his side.

But it wouldn’t be him. Not only was she leaving, he just wasn’t a relationship kind of guy. All of that entanglement could lead to love.

And love? Well, it just chewed you up and then spit you out. Everyone leaves at some point, and that pain for the one left behind?

Nope. Not for him.

He shoved all that aside and focused on what Landon was talking about. For the next forty-five minutes, they put together a plan for the festival weekend, figured out who would be on the schedule, and went over some incident reports.

Landon stopped in the doorway on his way out. “Been a while since we’ve had a round together. Want to meet up at Silver Moon tonight before the craziness starts next week?”

Aidan immediately thought of Megan, knowing she’d be working. He bet she was sexy as hell in action. He thought back to what Landon said earlier. Would a fling hurt?

It had been a while since he’d been out, just hanging out with his cousin in an unofficial capacity. And next week was going to be hell week with tourism picking up and vendors trickling in ahead of the festival.

“You know what? Yeah. Let’s go have some beer, shoot some pool. I’ll see if Noah and Del want to come out as well.”

“Hell, yeah. Works for me. Eight o’clock?”

Aidan nodded and they bumped fists. “Take it easy, Landon.”

His cousin walked backwards out of the office and tapped the bill of his ballcap. “Always.”

Later that night, the Silver Moon Cafe was packed as usual, but they were able to secure a pool table when an arguing couple—she was accusing him of cheating, though given her attitude Aidan wasn’t sure if she meant at pool or not—called it quits and walked away.

Stacks of quarters lined the edge of the table, indicating the guys planned to be there a while.

For the last hour, as he sipped his beer, he did his best to keep his eyes from wandering over to the bar where Megan was working. Her movements were quick, economical, and yet graceful as she took orders from patrons at the bar and filled orders from Charley and the other servers.

He had no idea how she kept all that straight, but one thing he could tell was that she was damn good at her job.

Not to mention that she looked fucking hot in the snug, black V-neck top. It stretched over her amazing tits, high and full. The sleeves had some sort of cutout, leaving only her shoulders bare before the sleeves ended halfway down her biceps.

“Aidan, you’re up.”

Noah’s voice brought his attention back to the table, and he set his beer down before standing. He eyed the table, trying to remember if he and Del were solids or stripes.

“Stripes,” Del said.

Aidan looked up and met his brother’s stare. Del shrugged. “I figured you forgot since your attention seems elsewhere.”

Aidan leaned over the table, setting up a shot, but flipped his brother off first. “I know. I don’t need a reminder, Mom.”

Del just chuckled and sipped his beer.

Aidan sank the next two balls, smirking as Noah and Landon groaned since that put them behind. Before Aidan could line up the next shot, Charley walked up with a tray on her shoulder, her dark ponytail swinging behind her. “Hey, guys. These are on the house, courtesy of our amazingly awesome new bartender.”

They all gathered around the high-top table as she set out four beers and a Coke. She lifted one and turned to Del. “You going to drink yours?”

He shook his head. “Nope. The one beer is good. Thanks for the Coke.”

“No problem. I figured you wouldn’t, but Megan didn’t know. I’ll leave the extra beer for the winner of the game.”

About a year ago, Del had found out that he had myasthenia gravis, a condition that caused weakened muscles, and in his line of work, it was too dangerous for him to work on set every day. He’d come home to film his final episode of his TV show,Property Ace, and ended up getting back together with the love of his life, Addison Davenport. These days, he ran the family business with Noah, filmed the occasional television special, and seemed to be happier than Aidan had seen him in years.
