Aidan stood at the stove, in nothing but a pair of black sweatpants that hung low on his hips, flipping a pancake in one pan and eggs in the other. He sang along to “Feels Like the First Time,” which couldn’t be more appropriate. She leaned against the wall and just watched, her blood starting to hum.

The muscles in his back danced when he moved. Just the simple act of moving the pan set off a ripple that made her lady parts sit up and take notice. And the man actually moved quite well to the music. No wonder he was amazing in bed. He knew how to use that body in a number of ways.

When he started singing along to the chorus, she smiled and rubbed at the base of her neck, swallowing hard. Sweat broke out on the back of her neck. She wanted to fan her face, but she wanted to continue her unobserved appraisal.

How fair was it that this man looked likethat, could cook, had that hot protector thing going on, and could sing? It didn’t seem fair. It was a wonder he had any friends.

But that was the other thing about him. He could be grumpy, but for some reason, that just endeared the townspeople to him. Then again, after seeing him with his brothers and cousin the night before, she had to wonder what the rest of the clan looked like. There was a lot of beauty in that gene pool.

He turned from the stove to the island where two plates sat ready to do their duty. He glanced up and did a double take when he saw her. If she’d been wearing any panties, they would have melted on the spot at the smoldering look he gave her. “Good morning.”

Damn, that sexy rasp danced along her skin just as it had before. She had really hoped she’d be more immune to his charms after she’d been properly fucked by him. Judging by her body’s reactions though, it appeared she was at his mercy.

Not that she was going to show him that little tidbit.

She returned his smile. “Good morning.”

He plated the pancakes and eggs. “Hungry?”

She walked closer to the other side of the island. “Famished. I had a long night of physical activity.”

He chuckled and bit into a piece of bacon. Her nipples hardened as though remembering the feel of those teeth scraping against them. “You and me both. Take a seat and I’ll bring the plates over. Syrup?”

“Yes.” The one syllable was all she could manage around the desire that had grabbed her by the throat.

When he set the plate in front of her a few moments later, he put a finger under her chin to tilt her head back. “Hello, beautiful.” He lowered his mouth to hers in a sweet kiss that made her heart swoon right out of her chest.

“Hello, handsome,” she said when they came up for air.

She looked down at the plate in front of her and her mouth dropped. “How did you know what kind of eggs I liked?”

He set the coffee down before taking the seat next to hers at the small square table. “Lucky guess. You just strike me as someone who’d like her eggs sunny side up. They’re a little messy, but delicious, just like you.” He leaned over and kissed the side of her neck, his stubble tickling her sensitive skin. Then he looked at her plate as though making sure that’s what he’d cooked. “Are they okay?”

She nodded as tears inexplicably filled her eyes. He was too much. How did he notice all those little details? She covered up her mini emotional meltdown by taking a gulp of the piping hot coffee, which promptly sent her into a coughing fit.

Just perfect. At least now she could explain her teary eyes.

“Jesus, Megan, are you okay?” Aidan’s face was pinched with concern, and he reached over to pat her on the back.

She lifted a hand to stop him from touching her. If he touched her bare skin right now, she might do something super mortifying like melt into a puddle on the floor. “I’m good.” When his eyes narrowed, she said, “I promise.”

A couple of minutes ticked by in silence while they both shoveled in some food. To Megan’s surprise, though, it was a comfortable silence, even after her little awkward coughing fit. Not what usually happened the morning after for her.

But she still needed to talk. Needed to know what happened from here.

Megan chewed and swallowed before she spoke. “This is delicious, Aidan. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. You work tonight?”

“Yeah. How about you?”

“I’m second shift today.” He sipped his coffee—like a normal human would with hot beverages—and looked her in the eye. “Want me to stop by the bar? Pick you up later?”

Her lips tilted up. “I’d like that. But only if the end result of tonight is a replay of last night.”

There. She’d laid down the gauntlet. Let’s see what he did with it.

He took her small hand in his warm, larger one and brought it to his lips. His blue eyes were like twin flames as he looked at her over their joined hands. “That’s a guarantee.”
