I cry out his name, begging for more.
“This isn’t going to take long, baby.”
He grips my hips and sets a punishing pace. Each stroke is deeper than the last and as always, no matter what position, Nate manages to find the spot that sets me off.
“I feel you clenching around me, baby. You’re going to make me come.”
“Yes, come for me, Nate.”
A few more thrusts and we’re both flying off the cliff together, breathless and sated.
Moments later, we’re cleaned up and I’m straightening my skirt.
He wraps his arms around my waist. “The plan was to bring you in here to talk once Lucy fell asleep. But then you came down in that outfit and fried my brain.”
“It’s a suit!”
He shrugs. “I love you and you turn me on—what can I say?”
I laugh, rolling up on my toes to kiss him. “I love you more.”
“Not possible.”
A cry comes from the baby monitor on the couch. I clap. “Oh good, she’s up. I want some baby snuggles before I leave.”
I head out to the living room and lift Lucy out of the bassinet. Her crying turns to little mewls that pull at my heartstrings.
“Hello, my sweet baby.” I kiss her soft hair, swaying back and forth with her in my arms.
She smells like baby powder and fresh baby laundry detergent. I love her so much; I just want to hold her all the time so I never miss a moment.
Honestly, I never thought this would be me. Before, having kids was such a far-off notion for me, I wasn’t sure I’d have them.
While it wasn’t in my master plan to get pregnant from a one-night stand, I wouldn’t change a thing.
“Let’s go find Daddy,” I say, kissing her forehead.
“He’s right here.”
I turn around and Nate’s behind me, holding up a small gift bag.
“What’s this?”
“Open it.”
“Now?”
“Preferably.”
“Okay…” I tilt my head, studying him as I hand over Lucy and take the bag. He clears his throat and a muscle in his cheek tics.
Is he nervous?
Inside the bag is a square iconic turquoise box.
Oh my God…
My breath catches as I pull it out, my heart pounding in my ears. “Nate…” I whisper.
