“No, I’ll get in touch with him.” I swipe at my eyes. “I think I’ve had enough for tonight. I’m just going to get some sleep.”
“Want me to stay?”
“No, but thanks. I’ll be fine.” I walk her to the door where we hug and say our goodbyes.
My body’s exhausted, but my mind races, processing how my life has been altered.
I have a million questions and zero answers. While I’d love to think there could be more between Nate and me, what Megan said only solidifies the fact we barely know each other.
I’m an event planner from small-town Georgia, and he’s a future contender for the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
While my family is considered wealthy, I have to work for my money.
Nate is a millionaire many times over who never has to work again.
He’s a sports celebrity, the Tom Brady of baseball, and known all over the world.
No one outside of the Madison Ridge city limits knows me.
He’s thirty-seven and has seen the world.
At twenty-six, I’ve never been out of the United States.
I love my big family. He apparently doesn’t even want a family.
We couldn’t be more different if we tried.
But there is one thing I do know. We made a life together and he deserves to know about it.
What he does with that information is up to him.

“Mr. Gentry,we’re making our descent in about five minutes.”
I open my eyes to find the blonde flight attendant leaning over me. Sitting up straighter in my seat, I nod. “Thank you.”
She shifts closer, her cleavage pressed close to my face. “Do you need help with your seat belt?”
“No, thanks. I can handle it.”
Her smile falters a bit as she stands upright and stalks to the back of the jet I chartered.
She’s obviously new. The other attendants learned long ago I’m not one to help them join the mile high club.
The pilot comes over the intercom with instructions for the crew. I half listen and look out the side window, my mind wandering to the texts Charley sent me yesterday.
Charley: Hey you. I heard you’re coming to town for a few days.
Me: Hey gorgeous. Yeah. I planned to stop by and see you while I was in town.
Charley: Yeah, yeah. Likely story. *smile emoji* But seriously, I would like to see you. What time do you arrive tomorrow?
Me: 3:30
Charley: Why don’t you stop by after you get here?
