Even if I can’t have everything in life, I can give others everything. My heart and my soul.

I motion to Santa and he unrolls the scroll with a ceremonious flick.

And in that moment, I see his eyes.

That green.

That holiday, evergreen…

He stands. “First, I’d like Ms. Iclyn to sit on my chair.”

I lean toward him. “What are you doing?”

“Please, Iclyn.”

I tug on the snowflake necklace around my neck. “Fine.”

I sit down and he kneels in front of me. “Santa would like to tell Ms. Iclyn what his wish is for Christmas.”

With all the eyes on us, I decide to play along. Running from the room wouldn’t look good on anyone.

“What would you like for Christmas, Santa?”

“Before meeting you, I was hiding, Iclyn. I was cold and you warmed me up. You’ve settled into my soul, and now, I’d like to ask you to be my best friend, my love, my happiness… forever.”

“Is this a prank?” I ask softly.

He whispers “No. I know how much you like those, but this… this is real. Really real, Iclyn”

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small box. The crowd cheers. “Now, now, it’s not the big one, but I think it’s special.”

He opens it and it’s a snowflake that matches my necklace.

“It was you?” I breathe out.

“Always. I think I loved you before I knew I loved you.”

“Cheesy.”

He laughs. “I like cheese, but I love you, Iclyn and I don’t want to be away from you now or ever.”

“Ever?”

“Ever-ever.”

I look out into the crowd. If I didn’t have any hope, they’re sharing theirs with me.

“I love you, Brink— I mean, Santa and yes, I’ll be your Mrs. Claus.” I lean over and kiss him. He slips the ring on my finger and it’s beautiful.

It’s a promise, a promise for forever.

The kids go crazy and Jenna yells out, “Now!”

Thousands of tiny snowflakes fly into the air and come down on us. They were in it all along.

“I love you, Brinker,” I whisper into his ear.

“I love you, Iclyn.”
