“Don’t you dare, Dalina Dukart.”
“Sean, really, we’ll talk later.”
“Are you with someone?” he asked.
“Yes.”
“But it’s morning there,” he said, confused.
“That’s exactly why,” I pointed out, trying to explain to him that I had slept with someone, though I knew I wasn’t being as specific as my friend wanted.
“Are you telling me that…”
“Yes.”
“When should I call you so we can talk?”
“I’ll call you as soon as I can.”
“I’ll wait for your call and don’t make me beg. Just tell me one thing, are you okay?” he asked, with sincere concern.
“For now I am.”
“Just for now? That’s not very reassuring.”
“We’re just getting to know each other.”
“Well…it’s good to be cautious. Talk to you later, gorgeous. Love you.”
“Love you too, handsome.”
I ended the call and sat staring at the phone. I adored my friend and would have liked to have him with me to tell him everything that was happening to me and ask for his advice. That also reminded me of Sol and I made a mental note to call her as soon as I could.
A voice beside me startled me.
“Who is ‘the handsome one’?”
“What?”
“Who were you talking to? I made it clear that I didn’t want to share you,” he said, looking at me seriously.
I got up from the sofa and looked at him seriously too.
“I understand that clearly and I haven’t broken my word.”
“Then tell me who it is.”
“He’s my best friend. He, Sol and I have been friends for years. Sean is now in France specializing in his career.”
“Is there just friendship between you? Because I find it hard to believe that a man could be by your side without fervently desiring you.”
“We’re just friends. As you can see, not everyone thinks like you,” I stated, turning and heading toward the kitchen. “I can order breakfast or prepare something with what I have. What would you prefer?”
“I prefer to eat you.”
“That’s very flattering, but I need to eat something because I’m absolutely starving,” I commented, and I wasn’t lying because my stomach was hurting from hunger. I hadn’t eaten anything since the previous afternoon.
“Alright, I’m hungry too.”
