“I think that’s a great idea.” She smiles.

My chest feels lighter as we make it to the door. “If you don’t mind, I’d like a quick chat with Arizona before I leave.”

I smile, my heart finally feeling the lightest it’s felt in days. “Not at all.”

Chapter twenty-nine

Cooper

“Nope.” I walk into the living room and yank the blanket off of Dakota.

I’ve let the last few days slide. She’s made some excuse to be in the kitchen until an ungodly hour, or she falls asleep on the couch while her and Ari watch a movie before I can make her crawl into my bed. Which was part of the rules if she’s forgotten.

“What?” She groans.

“We discussed this, Kota.” I cross my arms as I stand over her. “My bed.”

“I really am fine right here.” She waves a hand over the sofa. “You know I’m a bad sleeper.”

I stare down at her, unimpressed.

“Oh my gosh. If you’re just going to hover like a creeper, then fine.” She huffs.

Grinning, I step back and wait. Her eyes roll as she pushes up from the couch, then marches down the hall.

I lean my head back after seeing those tight as fuck spandex and a crop top shaping to her gorgeous body. I discreetly reach down and adjust myself before I follow. Flipping the hall light off, I make one quick glance behind me before I step inside my room and shut the door. Dakota is already crawling across my bed, gathering pillows in her hands.

“I can make a barrier.” She places one of the king size pillows in the middle of the bed.

I let her have the illusion there will be any sort of barrier between us while I slide my joggers down my legs, leaving me in just my boxer briefs.

Her hands are still moving, but her voice trails off when I turn to face her.

She swallows thickly, her eyes hovering on my chest, before they travel lower.

“Here. Let me get that for you.” I take two strides to the bed, then lift my thumb to the corner of her lip. “You got some drool there.”

She blinks, swatting my hand away with a comical scoff. “I am not drooling. I was in shock. You can’t just take your pants off without warning.”

“And why not?” I ask, grabbing the pillow she strategically placed, tossing it to the floor. “Shouldn’t a husband be able to strip in front of his wife?”

Her jaw hangs open. “Oh, so you’re a strip tease now?” She laughs. “Show me your moves, cowboy.”

She shakes her head, a playful smile on her face as she settles onto her side of the bed.

Pulling the covers back, I place both palms on the mattress, getting level with her face so my eyes hold hers. “Careful what you ask for, Kota.”

She visibly gulps as she watches me slip in beside her. When I pull the covers over my legs and flick off the lamp, I let the darkness soak in. The only sound is her heavy breathing, and a smile blooms on my face. Her walls are crumbling. And it’s only a matter of time.

My alarm hasn’t gone off. The sun is barely up. But my eyes blink open because something warm and perfect presses right up against my morning wood. I don’t dare move yet, afraid if I do, Dakota will pull her soft body away from mine. Her ass is pressed into my front, while my right arm somehow got draped over her bare torso, with my thigh slid right up between her legs. She’s still asleep, but she’s always been a squirmer. I close my eyes as she wiggles again, and my cock twitches against my will.

I internally curse as the steel in my briefs practically throbs when she lets out a light moan.

She’s going to kill me before I’ve even had breakfast.

With the skill of a ninja, I manage to slide out from behind her, and escape to the ensuite bathroom to shower and relieve this pressure before I do something drastic like push her before she’s ready. She’s close, I can see it in her eyes. It’s there. The feelings she tries so desperately to suppress. One day she’ll see, and until then, I’ll be right here. Waiting.
