I begin to move, my hands resting on his shoulders, my nails scratching against the material of his shirt. His hips rise to meet mine, every thrust driving deeper. Every movement bringing us closer. Tingles run from the tips of my toes to the tops of my ears, warmth and love spreading through my chest as his eyes latch onto mine. So blue. So much love. So…mine.

“I love you,” he says, his hands gripping my hips. “Fuck, I love you.”

“I love you too,” I gasp, my muscles clenching.

One hand slides up under my shirt, before I reach down and tug it over my head. My breasts are covered by a black bra, the material thin enough to showcase my pointed nipples.

His finger catches on the cup, tugging it down to expose my bare skin.

With a groan, he leans forward, capturing my nipple in his mouth. He sucks hard, the zing from the contact shooting down to my clit.

“Touch yourself,” he rasps against me. “I want to feel you fall apart.”

My hand snakes down between us, my fingers strumming as I ride him in my front seat in broad daylight.

His nostrils flare, his eyes bright as his palm reaches up to lightly grip my throat.

One more thrust and I’m tumbling. Falling and spinning. I cry out his name, before I feel his release, then collapse on his chest. With heavy breaths, I close my eyes, wondering why we waited so long for this. So long when it could have beenthisgood.

“Not to ruin this intimate moment,” Cooper whispers. “But do you have any idea how many times I dreamed of fucking you in this truck?”

I snort, then slap at his chest as I sit up. “How many?”

“An embarrassing amount,” he admits with a laugh.

Pressing a kiss to his lips, I slowly slide off of him, then grab my jeans. “Just for the record. You’re the first.”

He stills. “First what?”

“First for my truck.” I say, keeping my eyes trained on maneuvering my foot in my pants.

“Good.” I can hear the smile in his voice before he adds. “I better be the last.”

Chapter forty-eight

Cooper

My hand slides around Dakota’s waist before I drop a kiss on her exposed shoulder. “Morning.”

“Morning.” She smiles at me through the mirror, right before she pulls out a tube of makeup.

“So, Christine is coming to the party?” I ask, before grabbing my boots.

“Yes.” She drops the tube, then curses.

“There’s nothing to be nervous about,” I tell her.

It’s been a quiet week in terms of reckless drivers and threatening notes. Ari has had a good week at school, and weeven arranged for Heather to meet us at the fall carnival to surprise her. She has no idea we’re throwing her a party at Ivy and Maddox’s house. It was too risky to do it here, and when Christine called to see about coming for a final home inspection, we thought it would be a perfect time for her to meet the family.Ari’s family.

“I know.” She braces her hands on the counter. “I just want this birthday party to be the best.”

After slipping on my boots, I push to my feet.

“Hey.” I wrap my arms around her shoulders and lean my chin on her head. “You’re doing an incredible job with her. I know you’re trying not to push her. To let her open up when she’s ready. She loves school. I even find her sneaking out to the barn to see the horses. She’s thriving.” I press a kiss to her hair. “Thank you.”

She spins to face me. “For what?”

“For letting me keep my word.”
