Aiming my .22, I repeated, “Romeo, get the fuck out of my house before I have your mother picking her black dress.” Clearly, he got the picture because after taking one last look at Rae and me, he got the fuck on, like I knew he would. Once our unwanted guest was gone, we were able to cook, enjoy our meal, bathe, and cuddle on the couch watching Disney plus.

CHAPTER

THREE

Jawan

Pulling into a spot, it was time I went to check on my ol’ girl. I was ready for her to get the fuck up outta here, but this was my only option until she let the help stay around. As I was approaching the room my granny was in, I heard laughter from someone other than her. I knew Shad wasn’t here because he was in Chicago visiting his mother in rehab. Who the fuck was she in here with? I knew I needed to end this call with Si before I made it in her room because she was going to talk shit about not having my attention.

“Aye man, I don’t know why I gotta keep reiterating to you that you not my bitch, Si, I got some shit to handle, so I’ll hit yo’ line when I need some head.” I hurried to hang up before she started asking more questions and to see who the fuck my granny had up in this bitch. I pushed her door open slowly so I could see her before she saw me. Imagine my surprise to see my granny sitting on the bed holding the prettiest baby I had ever seen. They were playing some kinda game that ended in her being tickled, causing her to fall into a fit of laughter. The sight made my chest grow tight. I don’t know why, and I didn’t like it.

“Granny what the fuck is you doing? Whose baby is this?” I startled her, so she jumped, and the baby began to cry. That pulled on my heart strings. The crazy thing is when I got close enough, she reached for me. Shit had me uncomfortable as fuck, but I went ahead and picked her up. She immediately laid her head on my shoulder and stopped crying. What the fuck is going on with me?

“JJ watch your damn mouth around me and this baby. You need to knock and make your presence known when you come in here. Almost gave me a damn heart attack and you scared this baby half to death,” she continued to fuss. I laughed to myself because I was supposed to watch my mouth, but she could curse. What part of the game is that?

“I come to see you at the same time everyday Granny, what do you mean to make my presence known?”

“I didn’t ask you none of that lil’ boy, this is my room, and I have company today as you can see.” My smart remark was interrupted when Granny’s bathroom door opened. There she was; the prettiest bitch I’d ever laid eyes on. She looked up at me with the same pretty green eyes as the shorty I was holding and was just as stuck as me. After what seemed like forever, Granny cleared her throat, and she came to her senses. She reached for the baby, who had made herself comfortable in my embrace. Shorty hugged my neck tight as fuck when her mama tried to take her. I turned her away from her mother and gave a scowl, baby girl obviously liked where she was.

Placing her hands on her petite hips, she said, “Really, Rae? That’s how you gonna do, Mommy?”

We weren’t tryna hear none of that, though. Making my way to the couch in my grandmother's room, I sat her comfortably in my lap, and caught up on my granny’s health and progress. I was ready for her to come home. I ain’t gone lie, it felt good to see Granny in good spirits. She was normally giving these youngbitches a hard time. While they talked, another pretty chick came in here. I learned that she was Mimi’s best friend and my grandmother had taken a liking to her as well. At least I now know she’s in good hands when I’m not around.

After a while, I looked down at my Rolex and noticed I had been here a lot longer than I planned to be. It was about time I got up outta here. We’d been here for hours and they were still talking. Rae had fallen asleep on my chest, so it was time for them to roll too. Now that a nigga thought about it, I ain’t ate shit the whole time I had been here, and neither had they.

“Aye, Shorty, let me feed y’all, lil’ mama gotta be hungry as fuck because my stomach touching my back,” I interrupted. The three of them looked at me as if I had committed the ultimate sin or some shit. In reality I wasn’t ready to be out of their presence. Seeing her interact with my granny and her daughter attaching herself to me gave me a sense of serenity, and I wasn’t ready to get rid of that just yet. She hesitated for a minute, looking between Granny and her homegirl at first, then she gave her attention to me.

“I-I don’t think we should, I have a few errands to run today.” That was cute that she thought she had an option. Standing to my feet, I adjusted Rae in my arms.

“I wasn’t asking you, Shorty.”

I gave my grandma a kiss and made my way to the exit. As I made my way out of the room, I heard my granny telling her that she basically had no other choice, and I sensed no lies. Once we made it to the parking lot, I turned to see that she was right on my heels.

“Tio grab her seat and shit, y’all riding with me.” Again, she hesitated for a minute but did what I asked when she noticed that she didn’t really have a choice in that matter either. A nigga like me didn’t ask questions. It was literally my way or my way. I got them both situated in the car and headed to this little brunchspot that I ate at often. After a few minutes of awkward silence, she finally spoke up.

“Tio? You just giving me nicknames now? I don’t even know your crazy ass.” I took my eyes off the road, looked at her for a second and smiled.

“Hell yeah, until I can call you wifey.”

That caused her to blush and look back out the window. We rode the rest of the way in a comfortable silence, with only my old school R&B playing. My choice in music surprised a lot of people. I’m this hard ass, thug ass nigga all the time, and truthfully, I did a lot of shit I’m not proud of, so my music is my way to wind down and still my spirit.

Pulling up to Charlie’s, it wasn’t really packed today, which is a good thing. I could enjoy the company of the girls in peace. We entered the building, we were immediately greeted by Charlie, the chick that owned the place. She was the only one I let serve me when I came in here. Mainly because she ain’t tryna fuck on a nigga. She likes bitches just as much as me.

“Grim what’s going on? You want your usual spot?” I gave her a warm smile and nodded my head.

“Yeah, the usual spot. Aye Charlie, y’all got one of them chairs my lil’ shorty can sit in, too? I want her mom’s to be comfortable and shit while we eat.” She let us know she had one, seated us, then went to get the lil’ chair shit. When we sat down, she got all quiet on me again, so I decided to break the ice after we ordered our drinks.

“What you doing with a clown like Romeo?”

She was a really pretty girl and from what I learned listening to her and Granny talk, she had a good head on her shoulders. Looking up from the menu, she answered me.

“Romeo wasn’t who he is now when we met two years ago. He was good to me, treated me like a queen, money changed him. The moment he started to come up, it all changed. Whenhe found out I was pregnant with Rae, that was the icing on the cake.”

I took a minute before I responded, I don’t want to offend her. This shit really got my mind blown; I don’t give a fuck about bitches outside of fuckin’. I get mine and get the fuck on through, but here I am within only hours of really meeting her, caring about her feelings and her daughter.

“I've known Romeo since we were kids, he always been a fuck nigga, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He showed you what he wanted you to see, 'til he had you where he wanted you. You gotta believe a muhfucka the first time they show you who they are.” I wasn’t trying to throw him under the bus, but I don’t bite my tongue for no damn body. She looked up again and sighed.

“Yeah, I see that now. I don’t wanna talk about Romeo though. Why did you kidnap us? The only reason I obliged is because you had Rae. I’m not some weak woman, Jawan. Contrary to what you may think, I’ll fill your body with lead and sleep like a baby tonight.”
