Shit. I just called him sweetheart, didn’t I?

“All I’m saying is you’re allowed to have nice things. And it’s okay to ask for them.”

Those pretty brown and blue eyes held my gaze fast.

“What time do you want me to be there?” he murmured eventually, rubbing his hand over his nape.

“Four thirty? Is that okay?”

“Yeah. That’s good. I’m sorry, but I have to go back to work now.”

“Oh, of course. Sorry. I hope you won’t be too late.”

“No.” Kaspar shook his head, a small smile on his lips. “Do you think it’s okay if I hug you goodbye?”

“I think that’s okay.”

He briefly closed his arms around me, and then stepped back.

“It was lovely to see you today, Ollie.”

“And you, Kaspar. I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

“Me, too.” He gave me a little wave, turned around, and walked away.

Chapter 18

Bo

Iadored Ollie for how excited he was about the movie night with Kaspar.

“I asked what pizza to get for him, and he told me his favourite flavour and then tried to talk me out of ordering it.”

“He did? That’s strange.” I tilted my head as I got a stack of napkins from a drawer.

My husband looked upset.

“He said it was too fancy and expensive and just to get any other topping for him.”

“Oh.” I crossed the kitchen and pulled him into a hug. He’d been the same when we met. Believing he had to tone himselfdown, that he didn’t have any right to ask for what he really wanted.Feeding off the scraps.Always putting himself last.

He saw that in Kaspar, I was sure of it.

“Thank goodness our paths crossed,” I whispered and rubbed my cheek over his hair.

“Yes, Bo. So am I. I’m still scared you’re doing this for me, though.”

“Do you think I will resent you for this, älskling?”

“No.” His voice cracked.

Oh my sweet man.

“Oliver, look at me.” He raised his face, tears glinting on his cheeks. “I love you. You are the other half of my heart, and I trust you, Oliver Bright-Persson.” I pecked him on the lips. “I don’t take my job of making sure we remain healthy and happy lightly. Both of us. Do you understand?”

He nodded.

“If I didn’t like the idea or wasn’t interested, or worse, if I feared for our relationship, I would tell you. You are my confidante. I shareeverythingwith you. And I know it’s the same for you.”
