I pry my eyes open, ready to joke about not seeing a hot date anywhere, but that would be a lie. Johnny’s shirtless, and well… he’s hot.

“Our day date?” I ask, a wave of excitement washing over me to get out and spend the day with him. “Can I wear what I have on?” I ask, dropping the sheet to flash him my naked body.

He drops a kiss to each nipple. “Cover these up.” Then he places a tender kiss on my lower stomach. “And this. They’re mine.”

He stands, lifts his arms, and pushes his thumb and pointer finger together to make a window, then looks at me through it like he’s memorizing the moment. I love when he does that. “You’re a hard woman to resist, but I have a surprise. I’m going to take Charli upstairs. Declan is going to watch her for the night.”

“Why? Where are we going?”

He grins and rubs his hands together. “Pack a bag, little lady. We’re going to Vegas.”

We take a midmorning flight, arriving in Las Vegas a few hours later. Johnny dons a Twins hat instead of the usual Wildcats one he wears and sunglasses. He might be trying for incognito, but people still stare at him like he’s someone famous. I guess he is.

Inside our suite, I gape and walk around, taking it all in. A living area with couches and a dining table and small kitchenette, and a separate bedroom that’s as large as my apartment with Reagan and Ginny back in Valley.

“Johnny Maverick, what did you do?”

He chuckles. “Like it?”

“Like?!” It’s amazing. I walk to the window, where a view of the strip lies below. It’s going to look incredible at night with all the lights.

“What do you want to do first?” he asks, joining me by the window and wrapping his arms around my lower back.

We only have one day, and I want to see it all. And leave plenty of time to enjoy this room later.

After walking through the casino downstairs, we head outside and cruise the strip and malls. We go into stores where Johnny insists on buying me things no matter how much I try to protest. I get new shoes, sunglasses, a blinged-out trucker style hat that made him laugh, and a necklace with a star charm on it that he surprised me with. I didn’t even see him buy it. It’s gold with what I hope aren’t diamonds in the center, but knowing Johnny, I’m sure they are.

“Oooh, we gotta get one last thing.” He’s wearing my many shopping bags around his arms.

“No more,” I say. “I don’t need anything else.

“Need and want. Totally different things.” He winks. “You need and want this one, though. Trust.”

Somehow, he fishes out his wallet and gets us two large drinks the size of my arm with bright yellow, crazy straws.

“Well, that looks dangerous,” I say and taste it. “Oh, wow. Hello, I’m drunk.”

He laughs and takes a sip of his. “Sweet and strong. Like you.”

We continue strolling through the city, drinking and laughing until the sun starts to fall. Back at the hotel, we shower together, and then I shoo him out of the bathroom to get ready. It’s been a day of him surprising me, but tonight I have one for him.

I peek out of the bedroom into the living area. He’s parked in front of the TV, looking seriously hot in a white button-down with the sleeves rolled up his forearms. His dark hair is styled and free of the hat he wore all day.

I’m silent, but his gaze slides over to the doorway, and he sits up.

“Ready?” I ask.

“Always.” He stands as I walk out, moving toward me in slow, measured steps while his gaze rakes over me. “The black dress finally makes another appearance.”

It’s a simple dress. I think I paid all of forty dollars for it, but it’s short and tight, and well, the way he looks at me, I feel like a million bucks. I paired it with my red Converse because they just felt like me.

“Fuuuck, Kota.” He makes a circle around me. “I had big plans of showing you off downstairs, but now…” He stretches his hands out around my waist. “Maybe we should stay in.”

“Or maybe a little delayed gratification will make it hotter.”

“Hotter?” His brows raise. “Baby, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I run hot.”

“I might have noticed.”
