“It’s a classic. A young Dr. McDreamy pays the head cheerleader to pretend to date him and it makes him like super popular. But then it blows up spectacularly, as it always does. But they fall in love at the end.”
I’m either too drunk for the speed at which Jane is talking or she’s rambling faster than any human can process.
I look at Dahlia, silently asking,Is she for real?
“So, do you?” Jane asks.
“Do I…?”
“Have any hot friends you can hook me up with? Preferably taller than me, a junior or senior, no piercings—I don’t trust guys with piercings, long story, don’t ask, and he absolutely must know the difference between Taylor in her country era vs Taylor now.”
“I can honestly say I don’t know anyone that meets that very specific criteria, but I can introduce you to the guys on the team that are here.”
“That would be perfect.” She beams and looks at me expectantly.
My gaze slides to Dahlia, who’s watching with an amused smile.
“She means right now.”
“No time like the present,” I say with a laugh, and glance around until I find some of the guys.
Lucas and Brogan open their stances to let us into the circle.
“Hey, guys,” I say and point at Lucas. “You’re still awake. Color me surprised.”
He huffs a laugh and then looks to Dahlia and Jane behind me. He’s as good of a candidate for Jane as any of my other teammates. I think he had kind of a thing for Stella before she got with Beau, but otherwise, I’ve never known him to really be into a chick. He’s more a man of opportunity. Of theget drunk at a party and hook upbreed, so to speak.
Cindy Mancini? Close enough.
I clap him on the shoulder. “This is Dahlia and Jane. Jane was just saying something about that cartoon you like, what’s the name?”
His eyes widen with delight as he looks to her. “You’re a fan ofTeen Titans?”
I expect her to lie, but she shakes her head. “No, I’ve never heard of it before.”
“Oh.” Lucas’s face falls.
“But you can tell me all about it, if you want.”
“Definitely.” His smile is back, and he drapes an arm around Jane’s shoulder and pulls her closer.
“Look at you,” Dahlia says, “playing matchmaker.”
“She didn’t leave me much of a choice.”
“She’s like that. It’s all part of her charm.” She smiles. “Actually, she’s pretty amazing.”
“So are you.”
She blushes. “I was thinking…about our arrangement. We probably need to set some guidelines.”
“Guidelines?”
“Rules for our relationship. We decided on a timeframe, but what about rules for when we’re at parties together?”
“I’m still not following.”
She leans in a tad closer. “Are people going to keep believing we’re together if we aren’t touching or making out?”
