I’ll need to find new books. Learn the dangers. Yara will need to be better rested. We’ll have to keep her tucked away until she gives birth. Round the clock security. Kazi will just have to take over her business. I will need to build another nursery or should they both be in one? Or will Yara want them with us?
“Twins?” Kazi asked, passing Mateo to follow the doctor.
The latter didn’t answer, but as he turned a corner, Mateo’s feet finally decided to cooperate. He caught up to them just as they made it to Yara’s room.
“She’s in there, she’s expecting you two.” With that, the doctor fled from them.
Mateo didn’t hesitate any longer, rushing through the door and directly to Yara. No matter what happened, he wouldn’t leave her side again. She washisto protect.
Chapter 17
Steve
His Doll
“She’s leaving the hospital today.”
The words cut through Steve’s plotting. He spun to face Eve, offering her a sneer. “You’ll have to ensure she is separated from the men. Put the uniform back on and escort her to a set oflabsif you must.”
“I don’t—” Eve stuttered over the words.
Steve marched around his desk, eating up the space between them. The closer he got, the more she sunk in on herself, until her chin practically touched her chest.
He whipped his hand up, gripping her cheeks, and forcing her to meet his eyes. The contacts in hers were the mirrored image of his own. But they weren’t real. Neither was her hair. Her nose. Her chest. She was all made up.
She was all the pieces he had morphed and tweaked and surgically corrected to transform her into his daughter. While he achieved a close replica with Eve, she would never behisdoll.
“A cheap counterfeit.” He spit on her face. “Don’t turn into a fool now. Once I have her, you will be freed.”
He didn’t mentionhowhe would free her.
Eve squeezed her eyes shut but didn’t react otherwise. “Yes Father, I will bring her to you.”
Steve released her, satisfied. He wanted more than anything to unleash his anger on her face, but she couldn’t go out in public with a black eye. “And you’re sure she was just there for her appendix? I couldn’t obtain the medical records. Emilio’smenput safeguards in place on the hospital’s security.”
Steve watched Eve carefully, searching for any signs of deception, but she didn’t react.
“Yes, she has been recovering from the removal,” she spoke softly.
“Good, now go clean yourself up. I will be waiting outside for you both.”
Steve shoved her to the ground and marched from the room. He could hardly contain his excitement. It had beendecadessince he had Yara under his control.
Oh my doll, how much fun it will be to break you again.
Chapter 18
Yara
Threedays.
Three days around the clock in a white sterilized room with two men breathing down my neck. I couldn’t exhale too loudly, let alone take a piss without one of them watching me with concern. I had half lost my mind, but finally,I was leaving. The first thing I was going to do was find Izzy and tell her everything. From my call with her, it was clear there was more Kazi was keeping from me, and I was determined to get to the bottom of it.
As soon as I got out of this god forsaken hospital, which thankfuckwas happening today.
The doctor still hadn’t figured outwhatwas wrong with me. His best guess was something to do with the smaller twin. He also couldn’t determinewhythey were so much smaller. Or really figure out any reason why I had bled so much or what had caused the cramping.
Fucking useless.
