The air becomes thick with emotion, and we both jump when the judge slams his book shut.

“Okay, well, congrats. You are now Mr. and Mrs. Adams. You may kiss the bride.”

He doesn’t wait for us to do so, just turns around and walks back to his chair.

“Ah, Mandy, you missed it,” he tells his assistant. “Sign here as the witness. Thank you very much, you can go home now.”

Mandy gives us both a congratulatory smile that’s followed by a worried look toward Emily’s crying face.

I take a step forward and cup her face with my hands, bringing her closer yet and lifting her off her feet until our mouths touch.

Our first kiss as husband and wife.

The kiss is short, way too short, and to the point. After that, I grab our paperwork, and we walk out.

“This is a mistake, Puck.”

“The fact that this is what you choose to tell me as your first words as my wife should hopefully not be telling of how our marriage will be,” I tease her, although, I don’t really feel like laughing.

We take the elevator back downstairs and to the car, which takes us to the newest hotel on the strip. I am grateful when the driver hands me a key card so that we don’t have to deal with the registration desk. We both look like shit, and I’m sure Emily would appreciate not having to deal with people staring.

We get in the elevator to take us to the penthouse, and the doors are just about to close when a slender hand stops them, and they open back up. Three girls who look like they just stepped off the cover of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue get in the elevator with us.

“Hi there,” one of them addresses me after she eyeballs the lit button for the penthouse. Since me and Emily are the only people in the elevator, it is obvious that’s where we’re going.

I don’t respond to her greeting. In fact, I just stare straight ahead. But the chick can’t take a hint.

“We’re free if you’re up for some company.” She leans into me and licks her lips, her intentions quite obvious. Her friends also get in on it and start sending me come hither looks.

All of a sudden, I feel angry out of my fucking mind.

“Do I look like I am interested?” I snap at all of them. “Is she invisible?” I point to Emily with my left hand while lifting my right one to show we’re holding hands.

“Uh,” one of the hot chicks have the decency of looking uncomfortable. Unfortunately, it is not the one who’s all over me.

“We don’t mind sharing,” she grins at me, although the look she gives Emily is not as enthusiastic.

I give her the same look she’s giving Emily. “I would hope my wife has something to say about that.” I turn to look at the wife in question. “Are you okay with these women hitting on me?”

Emily looks surprised that I’m asking. Her cheeks are red with embarrassment, and her eyes glassy with unshed tears, but I won’t let up.

“Are you?” I repeat my question, staring at her until I finally get what I want out of her.

“Not even a little bit.” Her voice sounds strong when she says it, and her eyes move to the three intruders. “And I will kill you if you touch him.”

A smirk takes over my face, the first real sign of amusement since she gave me the news on the plane.”

“Good girl.”

Emily

My mind is goinginto a million directions as Puck leads me out of the elevator and to the door of the penthouse we’re apparently staying in. He scans his key card, then we’re in.

I just remain by the door, my eyes looking around in awe. I am no stranger to staying in nice hotels, but this might very well be the most luxurious I’ve ever stayed in.

Puck’s heavy steps barely make a sound when he walks on the plush carpet under our feet. It feels like a sacrilege to walk on it with our shoes on.
