“Thank you for not hating me, Puck.”

I wonder how I would feel if the situation was reversed, and the woman I caught him naked in bed with turned out pregnant with his baby. The thought only brings back memories of the video he was watching in the room in Las Vegas.

“Do you miss your life?” I ask. “From before, I mean. With all the girls and…”

He cuts me off. “Not even a little bit. I would not trade this moment right here with you for anything.”

“How does Dylan feel about his son?” The thought hits me from out of nowhere. Dylan Knight has a son whose mother is a girl like the ones Puck used to hang out with. The baby was definitely not planned. In fact, he only found out about his son in the last year or so, and the kid is almost five, I think.

“He had a hard time with it at first,” Puck admits. “I don’t think he planned on having anything to do with Ethan. But I think he is attached now.”

“I thought Wyatt got Ethan though.” That entire situation is weird.

“Yeah, he did. Your brother and his wife agreed to raise Ethan as their own. Dylan asked them to when he thought he was going to die.”

I don’t know how to take any of this in. I can’t judge anyone for their decisions considering the one I am in. But I do wonder of I’d be capable of taking in a child that wasn’t mine.

I realize with a start that I am not as good of a person as I thought of myself before. And all these rough around the edges guys, who I used to think were hardened criminals, have a heart of gold, and they do not hesitate to jump in and help, no matter if it puts their lives at risk or not.

“How long am I going to be here for?” I ask because I can’t imagine that they’re just going to keep me hidden up here in my room forever.

“Probably until this is over,” Puck admits. “We are working a few different angles, and we are getting closer to getting the situation resolved.”

I wonder if this is a good time for me to tell him that Bricks, the person everyone thinks is dead, is working with Steve. My brain is not working at full capacity right now. I want the guarantee that no matter what, Puck and my dad will always be safe.

“I will kill them both on the spot,” Bricks promised me. “Just one word from you, and it’s done,” he smirked at me, the devil in his eyes. “Especially Puck,” he snorted. “That inconsiderate little shit thinks he is smart enough. We’ll see about that.”

Something in my eyes must’ve alerted him to the fact that I did indeed plan on telling Puck about our encounter.

“Try me,” Bricks smirked at me, causing chills to break up and down my spine.

How can Puck fight an invisible threat though? He needs to know, I decide. And I will deal with the consequences later.

“Puck, you need to know something.” I let out a long breath, preparing myself to continue.

“Hold on for a second.” He sits up abruptly, pulling a brand new phone from his pocket. “What the fuck,” he mutters to himself.

“Everything okay?” I try to look over his shoulder and see what he’s so concerned about. He is looking at an app, but I’m not sure what it represents.

“The alarm went off at Becca’s house,” he mutters, and I’m not even sure he realizes that he’s talking to me. “But there’s no one there.”

He keeps on tapping on different screens until he decides to call Sully.

“Hey, check the status on Becca’s house.” There’s a long pause. “Yeah, that’s all I see, too.”

They go back and forth for a bit before they hang up, and then he gets on the phone with Dylan.

“I’ll take this downstairs, okay?” he kisses me on the forehead before leaving the room.

I just remain sitting up on my bed, wondering why I didn’t open my mouth to tell him about Bricks sooner, before he got busy. Now, knowing that weird things are happening at Becca’s house is scaring me again.

I just lost my courage to speak up.
