“Good,” Devereaux nods in approval. “Mr. Sully will help with that.”

My eyes go to his first, watching the smirk on his face. They then move to Sully’s who’s just sitting here with an impassive expression.

“Anything I should know?” I finally ask. I can tell something is going on, and I can’t believe how tight lipped the fucker has been.

“I’ll get you guys in, and get your woman checked out,” he promises.

“Where?”

“The hospital in Red Lodge where Emily works,” he tells me like it’s no big deal.

“Since when you have connections like that there?” I mean, we are still new to the area, and we came here blind. The only solid connection we have in the whole state of Montana is Devereaux.

“Since I started getting to know people.”

“What kind of people?” I frown at him.

“Is it that important?” he snaps at me.

“Fuck yeah it is,” I snap right back. “Do you think I’m just gonna take Emily to a random headcase at the hospital where we don’t know anyone? Have we not learned anything from this whole shitshow we’ve been a part of since moving here from Texas?”

My Texan accent is coming through a little more now that he got me all wound up. I don’t understand what he has to hide. I mean, he’s been hiding the fact that he knew we were related, which reminds me…

“Did you know he was my brother?” I point at Sully with my thumb when I look at Devereaux to ask.

“Yes, Mr. Puck,” Devereaux responds, his tone amused. “Quite the coincidence, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, that’s what it is,” I roll my eyes at him. “Did you know too, Mrs. K?” I ask when I see she doesn’t look surprised.

“I overheard Bricks’ phone conversation with your mother. This was before you even joined the club, Puck,” she tells me with pity in her voice.

“Stop calling herMrs. K,” Devereaux growls out of nowhere.

“What?” I am confused. We were talking about Sully being my blood brother.

“You keep on calling ArleneMrs. K,” he explains in an even tone. “I don’t like it.”

“I don’t like it either,” Arlene whispers apologetically.

“What the fuck am I supposed to call her?” I look at both of them like they’re crazy. “That’s all I’ve ever called her.”

“How about you just call meArlene, Puck?” she offers with a gentle smile.

I shake my head at everyone in the room. “These are just too many changes at once. I don’t know if I can handle everything.”

Devereaux gives me a look that should turn me into stone, so I shut up for now.

“Good job distracting me with all this shit,” I tell them all. “I thought we were talking about Sully and who he knows at the hospital.”

“I’ll tell you everything once this thing with Emily is settled, brother,” Sully promises. It hits me right in the heart when he calls mebrother. He’s always done it, but it’s different now.

“How do we even know we can trust them?”

“She is very trustworthy, I assure you.” Sully almost sounds insulted at my implication.

“She?” We’re finally getting somewhere. “Who isshe?”

“Morgan Foster.”
