“Never,” Alex is quick to reply. We all take turns giving him a hard time about it, to the point where he threatens to go home if we don’t leave him alone.

“What’s going on with you and Karyn?” he turns it around on me. “When are you going to make some babies with her?”

I grin at him, but my cock shrivels up in inside at the thought of having a family with the girl I amverycasually seeing.

“We’re not serious like that,” I assure everyone.

James stops mid sip. “I thought you were taking her to the big party at your parents’ house.”

“Yeah,” I shrug. “So?”

“So isn’t it a sign of getting serious when you introduce them to the parents?”

“Says who?” I snort in fake amusement.

“The rules of society. I would’ve never introduced Carrie to my family if I didn’t think I wanted to keep her forever,” James explains, and it does make sense.

“Karyn knows what the score is,” I assure everyone. “She is only going because my stepmother insisted that I bring a date. Pestered me with it, really. I don’t have time to find anyone else to take in such a short period of time.”

“Does Karyn know?” Kyle asks shrewdly.

“I sure fucking hope so,” I nod and start laughing.

“So, she is just a hookup then,” Kyle further probes.

“Not like I don’t respect her,” I grin and take another sip of my beer. “But…”

“But what?”

The voice coming from behind me is definitely not coming out of any of my friends who are all currently frozen in their spots, scared to breathe for some reason.

“Karyn,” I smile at her when I turn my head and lock eyes with her. “I didn’t know you were stopping by. It’s guys’ night,” I tell her even though it’s obvious.

“I know,” she manages to say through clenched teeth. “I wanted to surprise you with these.”

I look to the side and see a large platter full of cupcakes.

“Wow, they look delicious. So nice of you.”

I try to sound casual and like I don’t know that she heard every word of what I just said to my buddies.

Karyn picks up the huge platter full of cupcakes, and my entire body tenses in distress. I am positive that she is about to throw it all at my head.

“You’re not worthy of my cupcakes, Cal Prentice,” she spits at me, face on fire. “Find yourself anothercasualhookup.”

With that, she turns on her heels and walks back inside the house. Neither one of us dares to even blink as we listen to hear the front door to my house opening, then closing. She slams it so hard behind her, I swear the walls are rattling.

“Dude,” Kyle decides to take the initiative and break the tension. “I can’t believe you let her walk out with them. They looked amazing.”

“You’re fucked,” Alex points at me and laughs.

“You are,” James agrees. “Now you need a date for the fancy party.”

I turn my head to look at Kyle, ready to kick his ass.

“Did you ask me all those stupid questions on purpose, knowing that she’d hear what I have to say?”

“Hell yeah, I did,” he admits with no remorse. “I like Karyn. You shouldn’t play her like that.”
