“But she said that a couple of weeks ago,” I point out.

Alex huffs. “Trust me, Iknow. I think she killed my dick.”

“Are you saying you haven’t had sex since?” James is just as shocked. “Not even played with yourself?”

“Nothing,” Alex waves his arms around. “She killed it. It doesn’t work anymore. I don’t know what the fuck I’m gonna do.”

We take a few minutes and just sit in silence. Alex is the player in our group. For him to go with no sex for two weeks straight is unheard of.

The moment is interrupted by James’ cell phone going off. He looks at the screen, his face breaking into a huge grin.

“It’s Carrie,” he informs us.

“Of course it is,” Alex mumbles under his breath. The jealousy in his tone is unmistakable, but both me and James know that it’s not because he wants Carrie. No, he just wants to have something like what they have. Unfortunately for him, he refuses to acknowledge it, and he ruins every potential relationship he’s ever had.

I am so amused by Alex’s behavior that I almost miss James’ conversation with his girl.

“Yeah, I’ll stop by there on my way home,” he now tells her. “Does Evie know it’ll be me stopping by and not you?” My ears perk up at that. What does he need to go see Evie for? “Okay,” he snorts. “But if she gets on her crazy idea again, I’m gonna take off running,” he laughs.

They talk for a few more minutes, just enough to drive me crazy, especially toward the end when he insists on saying hi to the baby. That seems to be completely useless to me since the baby is only a couple of months old and can’t do anything on his own yet, let alone say hi back.

“Babies make grown people stupid, man,” Alex elbows me, shaking his head, confusion clear on his face.

I about rip the phone out of James’ hand by the time they’re done talking.

“Why do you need to go see Evie?”

“To pick up some dress that Carrie wants to try on,” he explains. “She is hoping to be able to get into it by the time we go on vacation. She worries about her body after baby, but I told her that…”

“Yeah, okay, I’m sure it’ll be just fine,” I cut him off. “I’ll get it for you.”

This is actually a genius idea. I am dying to see Evie again. Since I can’t make it too obvious…

His eyebrows go up in surprise. “The dress?”

“Whatever it is that needs to be picked up.”

I am already on my feet and grabbing my car keys and cell phone. Alex just watches me with his mouth slack.

“You’re throwing us out?”

“Well, I got to go, my brother,” I inform him, heading toward my front door. James is on his feet by now as well.

“Where am I supposed to go?” Alex asks in confusion. “I came here so that I don’t have to be home alone.”

“Go call Mona,” I direct him. “Tell her to come over. Make sure she understands you don’t want to have any babies. Wrap that shit up tight.”

His face goes pale. I’d sit around and laugh at his predicament, but I don’t have time for it.

“Dude,” I finally give in. “I’m going to see Evie. James,” I point at the man in question, “is going home to his baby momma. Do you wanna just stay here at my place then?”

His face lights up. “Can I?”

I shake my head and laugh. “You’re pitiful, dude, just pitiful.”

With James on my heels, I walk out the door and head toward my Jeep. I don’t even pay attention to my friend, assuming he’ll get into his own vehicle and be on his merry way. That’s why I am surprised when he stops me.

“You’re gonna come by my house later then?”
