She is out of breath but is not stopping. When she pulls at my hair a little too hard, I release her breasts, only to come up and get ready to devour her mouth. Her arms wrap around my shoulders, and her forehead drops to rest against mine. She is now grinding herself harder against me, looking for relief.
“This is too much, Cal.”
“This is everything, Evie,” I murmur back. “Let go, baby.”
That seems to be what she needs to hear, and she does just that. She throws her head back and screams, her entire body tense as she follows my instructions beautifully, and she lets go.
I don’t even pretend like I can hold it longer. Instead, I do what I just told her to do, and let go.
Just as I spill myself into her, I can’t get over the feeling of utter joy I am feeling. It’s like my entire life to this point has been a puzzle I could not solve.
It comes as a beautiful surprise when I realize that Evie has been the missing piece all along. The one that’s right in the middle. Where my heart is.
And oh shit.
We didn’t use a condom.
NINETEEN
“I hate Cal Prentice.”
I cross my arms over my chest and sit back in a defiant position. My best friend is watching me from across the table. She is kid free tonight since her man is watching the baby so she could come out with me. It’s like a date night, but in reverse. And it’s me who needed the date night, not her. Apparently, she is perfectly content spending her evenings at home with her hot boyfriend and newborn baby.
She is now paused with her fork up in the air, just as she is about to take a bite.
“Because he gave you orgasms?”
A waiter who was just passing by our table lets out a quite snort of laughter, making me lean over the table to whisper yell at her.
“Can you not be this damn loud?”
Carrie puts the bite of food in her mouth, chewing ever so slowly before shrugging at me.
“I don’t see what the big deal is.”
“The big deal,” I quietly yell again, “is that I don’t need the entire restaurant to know about my orgasms.”
“Oh,” Carrie nods in understanding. “As opposed to the grocery store where it was okay to announce you’re great at blowjobs.”
“Oh my god!”
I drop my head in my hands, completely mortified by what my life has become. I’ve never been the type of person who would shout from the rooftops about her sexual encounters. Mostly because I did not have any sexual encounters until now, but that’s besides the point.
“Evie.” My friend gets up from her seat on the other side of the table, only to come and sit next to me. “I was just teasing you. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.” I wave it off as if it’s nothing, but I don’t lift my head to look at her.
“You really like him, huh?” she says softly, calling me out on all my bullshit. I don’t even try to pretend like I don’t know what she’s talking about.
“I’ve always liked him, from the day I met him,” I remind her. “But then he was such an asshole to me. We had no contact for so long. My life was great.”
“Honey.” She puts an arm around my shoulders to pull me into a side hug. “You need to calm down. Cal didn’t ask you to marry him, and…”
My head snaps up. “What?”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she chuckles. “Didhe ask you to marry him?”
“No.” I am pouting now.
