“Would you like for him to propose?”

“No!” Okay, maybe I answered that a little too fast. “We’ve only been together a few times.”

Also, the best times of my life. For the past two weeks, Cal has been an expected feature at my door almost every night after work. He never spent the night because he said he had evening hours at his shop and had to be there. But it’s been incredible. I never imagined that having sex with someone could be so fulfilling and, well, fun.

“At least you won’t need to take a stranger to your mom’s party anymore.”

I turn my head to look at her in surprise.

“I completely forgot about that! I never canceled it!”

I pull out my cell phone and open theHolidatesapp. In my last message to Khail, I asked him for our date to be back on. I now frown at my inbox.

Carrie leans over my shoulder to take a look at my screen. “Problem?”

“This guy never answered.” I feel offended by that for some odd reason.

“I thought you canceled him anyway,” Carrie shrugs in a dismissive move.

“Yes,” I agree. “But then I messaged back and told him we were back on.”

“Hmm, that is strange,” Carrie agrees. “Maybe he thinks you’re crazy, who knows.”

I have a good comeback at the ready when something else catches my attention. I tap on his name so I can take a look at his profile. I frown when I see the same information from before.

“What’s the matter now?” Carrie nudges me with her elbow.

“His picture is gone,” I mumble in confusion.

“Oh, I thought you had to have a picture in your profile.”

“You do,” I confirm. “He had this picture of his back with a bunch of tattoos. It was really good, and now he has a picture of some lake and a pair of expensive sunglasses.”

I tap on a few other things, but they don’t show me what I’m looking for. I am inexplicably disappointed that this man I’ve never met in my life took his hot picture down.

“Well…” Carrie is now munching on a breadstick. “At least now we know for sure that you have a type. For future reference,” she makes sure to add.

“What? What type? I’ve never even met this guy.”

“True,” Carrie agrees. “But we know he has tattoos and a muscled back. And Cal also has tattoos, and, what I am assuming to be averymuscled back.”

I pull back in shock. “I can’t believe you’ve been checking Cal out. Does James know?” I ask in an accusing tone.

“That Cal is hot?” Carrie teases me. “I assume so, since they’re friends and all.”

“Ugh,” I roll my eyes toward the ceiling. “I can’t believe I thought it would do me good to talk this out with you.”

“Evie.” Carrie has her mom voice on now. It’s funny how quickly she developed it after giving birth. “This thing with Cal…”

“There is nothingwith Cal,” I roll my eyes again. “We’re just having sex.”

“I’m all for that,” Carrie assures me. “But when the sex is as amazing as you claimed that it’s been, it’s hard not to get your feelings involved, honey.”

I hate what she is telling me. Not because it doesn’t make sense, because it does, a lot. But because I do have feelings for Cal. Everything that I’m feeling scares me every time I am with him.

Despite my teenage crush and desire at the time for him to be my first, once things went sour between us, I never imagined that he would actually be my first.

And now that he is…
