Her eyes get big in her face, reading me correctly. Regardless, she still asks for clarification.
“What stopped you?”
I reach out and grab her by the back of her head, gently massaging her scalp under her hair. She closes her eyes for a brief second, allowing me to touch her.
“We need tonight to end differently, Evie.” My voice comes out loud enough for her to hear me, but not loud where I would scare her.
“Different how?” she whispers. She leans forward into me, anticipating my every move without even realizing it.
I bring my lips close until it is impossible for them not to touch hers when I speak.
“Like this.”
THIRTEEN
As soon asCal brings his mouth close enough for me to kiss it, it’s as if I’ve been drugged. The pull is too strong, and it is impossible for me to resist him.
“Yes, baby,” he groans when I open my mouth and our tongues touch. That first contact is the best. It’s like an electric current that starts where his mouth is touching me and ends right in between my legs.
I don’t bother to comment, nor do I bother to put a stop to the kiss. I enjoy it way too much. That’s why I just step back until he is not standing in the doorway anymore. When he pushes the door closed behind him using the heel of his boot, I about melt into the floor. It is such a sexy and self assured move.
I continue walking backward, our mouths fused together, having zero intention to stop.
As soon as I walked inside the house earlier, I called Carrie.
“Oh my god,” I screamed into the phone as soon as she answered. I forgot about the baby or anything else.
“Everything okay?”
The worry in her voice only got me going more.
“No!” I screamed. “Cal took me to this lake, and we almost died when his Jeep rolled forward. And he kissed me, Care!Kissed.Me,” I enunciated to her.
There was a bit of a pause on the line. I almost wondered if she muted me.
“Did you like it?” she finally asked.
My best friend’s question completely deflated me. In fact, it sucked all the air out of me, down to the very last particle of oxygen.
Much like now, when Cal is kissing me again. I have no idea how he’s become such an incredible kisser. It is like nothing I ever experienced before.
I continue walking us backward, trying to assess in the corner of my eye how much we have to go. The house is not huge, but it is split in such a way that the two bedrooms it has are down a hallway that leads from the entry area.
When we run straight into a wall, I yelp in surprise, almost biting on Cal’s tongue. I worry that he is about to stop what we’re doing. That’s why, when he attempts pulling back, my fingers grab onto the front of his shirt. There is no way this is not happening tonight.
“Baby,” Cal groans and moves his lips down the column of my neck, then upper chest.
“My bedroom is this door here,” I rush to say. I don’t even care that I sound desperate. I take his hand and get us through the door. I don’t stop until we reach my bed.
A look around shows nothing special. I never put much thought into décor, so it’s all pretty plain and straight forward. I guess all my artistic skills are used while at work.
All of a sudden, I feel incredibly nervous. It looks like this is really happening.
“Evie,” Cal cups my face, making sure that I am paying attention. “There is no way in hell I am going to stop once we get naked.”
“Okay.” I can’t believe that’s all I say, but that is all I am capable of.
“Tell me that you’re sure,” he demands. The determination in his voice is at complete odds with how gentle his hands are on me.
