Xander sits up in an abrupt move that he soon regrets. He brings a hand to the side of his head and takes a minute to regroup.
“Fuck, that hurt so bad.”
“You shouldn’t do that.”
I am about to get off the bed and go in search of some ice, when his arm shoots up and grabs me, stopping my progress.
“Tell me,” he growls at me, eyes still squeezed shut and face turned in a painful grimace. “Tell me it’s me you’re in love with,” he continues when I hesitate to answer because I’m not sure what he means.
I instantly go slack and fall back against him. I cup his now scruffy face in my hands, wishing I could kiss him the way I’ve been wanting to since I saw him again at the hospital.
“It’s always been you, Xander,” I whisper against his lips. “Only you.” I punctuate each word with a gentle kiss. “It will always be you for the rest of my days.”
His eyes snap open, showing me his vulnerable soul. I am giving him something he never thought he’d have. Something he never got from anyone else.
“I love you.” His lips barely move when he speaks. “You’ll never be sorry you chose me.”
“There was no choosing,” I grin back. “You were the only one running away from this.”
He smiles and stares at me. It is obvious that the pain pills are wearing off and he needs a new dose of them, but he doesn’t want to let go of this moment either.
When he closes his eyes and drops his head back, I get off the bed and rush to my bag where I dropped his pain pills earlier. I grab a bottle of water on my way back.
“Take these,” I shove everything into his face. “Only for a couple of days,” I assure him. “So you can rest and heal.”
He follows my direction, then drops his head back, this time his eyes following my every move.
“After I sign my contract with the Sliders, we’ll look for a place to live in.” His voice sounds sleepy already and his eyes are getting droopy.
“You want us to live together?”
“Pft,” he snorts, “like I’ll ever let you go again. You’re stuck with me now.”
“Stuck,” I grin at him even though he gives into the drugs and falls asleep.
I take a moment to just stare at his face. My life has changed so much since Xander Hamilton came into my life. In the best of ways. He is the reason I have a relationship with Brandon despite the fact that he tried his hardest to keep us apart. He is also the reason why I feel like I can take over the world. And starting very early tomorrow morning, I will be in negotiations with the New York Sliders to get a contract for my first client.
The reason I will become a better version of myself.
My first and last true love.
Xander Hamilton.
Chapter 35
Xander
The negotiations with the New York Sliders have been brutal. They wanted me, but they thought I was desperate enough where they’d get me for dirt cheap.
In came Abigail Bennett, my brand new agent, badass and love of my life.
“Oh my god,” she squeals in delight right now as soon as she hangs up the phone.
She’s been on the damn thing for the last close to forty-eight hours straight, on top of the eight days before that. The portal closes at midnight tonight.
“They’re going to send a contract! They’re paying what we asked for! And a signing bonus!”
I walk up to her and pull her into me.
