I don’t even recognize the words coming out of my mouth, and I suspect it might be a trap. I don’t want to start another argument with him though.
“I’ll let you go now, Xander. Have a safe trip,” he says, sounding… sad. “Take care of Janie out there.”
He hangs up, leaving me to wonder what the hell just happened.
I’m not sure for how long I remain like that, leaning against the wall, staring into space, wondering about my future with the team and also with my family. The clicking of high heels heading my way reminds me that I need to go back inside and change out of my practice uniform.
When I turn my head to look to my left, I am surprised to see it’s Abigail.
“Hey,” she smiles nervously. “What are you doing out here all by yourself?”
I stare at her beautiful face, thinking to myself, once again, that I am missing something. She can’t be as perfect as I made her out to be in my head.
“Why areyouhere?”
The tentative smile falls off her face. She stops a couple of feet away from me, her fingers fidgeting with a manilla folder she’s holding.
“Laura gave me this to bring to Coach Harris.” She lifts up her hand to show me.
She looks nervous, like she’s hiding something, I am sure of it. But what? Or maybe it’s the fact that I am just suspicious of everyone and everything lately.
“I didn’t expect to run into you here,” she tells me after a couple of more awkward moments go by. Her eyes run over my body, stopping briefly to look at my bare chest. I know she likes what she sees, and maybe I do flex a little on purpose to make her like it even more.
“Practice just ended.”
You’d think we’d be able to talk to each other like normal people considering we’ve been fucking non stop for a month. Her body is imprinted on mine forever. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get her out of my head. Or my heart.
That last thought freezes me in my spot. I know I’ve already fallen for her, but it’s too early to voice it out loud, at least for me it is. I don’t trust that she feels the same about me, and I refuse to put myself out there like that.
She moves from one foot to the other, unsure of what else to say. Her cheeks look flushed and lips shiny from nervously licking them.
“I should go…”
I reach out and stick a hand inside the waistband of her pressed pants.
“Not before you give me a kiss.”
I don’t give her time to respond. Instead, I bring her body against mine and press my mouth against hers as soon as she is within touching distance.
For a split second, I think she’s going to try and push me away. But instead, she brings her arms up and wraps them around my neck, the folder in her hand now pressed to my back.
My tongue delves into her mouth as soon as her lips part. The taste that is so uniquely her invades my senses, making me forget where we are and why it is a bad idea for anyone to catch us.
Without thinking, I spin us around and press her against the concrete wall. My hands go to her ass and lift, forcing her legs to wrap around my waist.
“You are so fucking beautiful,” I mutter in between heavy kisses.
I can’t get enough of her. I think about her all the time, sometimes even while I am out on the ice, which is not doing me any favors. My game is off. I’m sure others have noticed as well.
“Xander…”
Abby gasps for air when I let go of her mouth, only to lick down her jawline, then her neck and finally on her upper chest. Her breathing is fast and the legs around my waist are refusing to let go anytime soon.
I bring my mouth back to hers, and kiss her again. My tongue duels hers, making it chase it into my mouth where I trap it. I wrap my lips around it and suck gently, matching my moves with the way I now push my hips against her.
“I love you,” she mumbles when I finally release her.
My head snaps back and my body freezes. I can’t hear anything else past the loud noise in my head.
