The problem was that my father wanted the cash and there was no way for me to get it as fast as he was demanding it. Around that same time, I came across a business opportunity that required an investment. I somehow talked my father into loaning me the money needed for it, with the expectation that there would be a big payout.
To say that reality exceeded anything any of us would’ve expected doesn’t even come close to it. We made millions off it. I paid my father off, but still kept the towing business.
Now, I have plenty of money to support everyone employed here. But it gives them a sense of pride knowing we’re all working hard to be as successful as we are.
With all that said, I don’t need to be working at all, but I enjoy it. And, in my down time, I still do some coding and fun stuff on the side.
The phone buzzes in my hand, snapping me out of reminiscing about old days. It’s a message from Alex Connors, someone who I’ve become friends with over the years. He is a legit technical genius who created an accounting software that’s now a household name. I assisted in some parts and made a bit of cash off it. That’s why I did not hesitate when he asked me to invest in his next venture.
I frown at his message, not understanding what it is about. I decide that an actual phone call would work much better than a text.
“You’re up early,” I tease him when he answers. My voice comes out deep and gruff from sleep.
“I can’t fucking sleep, man,” he comments. “I need this woman to move out of my life already.”
“Mona?” I ask for confirmation.
“Yeah, she’s not getting the hint.”
Mona is the girl he’d been seeing for a while. She burst his bubble when she started talking about getting married and having kids. He broke up with her close to a year ago, but then they ran into each other recently. A few drinks in, and what he thought would be a one-night stand with an ex has turned into a bit of a complicated situation.
“Anyway,” he now continues. “I knew you’d be up, even with all the alcohol we poured into you last night.”
I let out a groan of pain.Thisis why my head hurts this bad.
“You were pretty social,” he teases. “I can’t believe you actually agreed to that stupid dare.” He is now snickering.
I run a hand through my messy hair and yawn, trying to remember all the details of last night.
“Which dare was that?” I finally ask. As I wait for Alex to give me the details, I get the coffee going.
“You joining a dating site.”
I freeze with an empty cup midair just as I’m about to pull it out of the cupboard.
“What dating site?”
Broken memories from last night start flooding my brain.
Since the small town where I live doesn’t offer much of a social life, I often drive into the city to hang out with the guys, sometimes hook up with a girl in the hopes that she might be the one. Newsflash, they never are if they’re looking for a hookup as well.
Anyway, we hit our usual place last night. We were a fairly large group, rowdy and full of jokes the more alcohol we got in us. At some point, the conversation turned to serious dating. One of the guys there, Cal Prentice, is now in a committed relationship with a girl who lives in my little hometown. She also happens to be his stepsister, but that is besides the point. They got their romance going with the help of a weird app calledHolidates.
“You should get on there, dude,” Kyle, one of the other guys said. “Look how well it worked for Cal! And since it’s just to get a date for a holiday, if you’re not into her, you don’t have to see her again,” he shrugged. “It’s not like a real dating site or anything.”
That got us into pulling up the site and doing some research.
Need a date for a holiday event?
A family dinner with nosy relatives pestering you about settling down?
TheHolidatesapp is the perfect answer to your busy lifestyle needs. With this dating app, find the perfect rentaldate; both parties set the terms and conditions, absolutely no string attached.
“Nah,” I shook my head after reading all that. “I don’t think I’d be into any of this.”
“That’s cause Ray is a good guy,” James, one of the other guys said. “And that feels like a meat market, even though they say it’s not.”
“Dude,” Cal Prentice turned to look at his friend. “You’re the one who put the idea into Evie’s head to get on that app. You were basically sending her to slaughter?”
