“Sheesh, I didn’t know he was moody like this,” Evie tells her boyfriend as he drags her out the door.

I can hear them talking all the way outside while they walk to her car. I smile to myself, having to admit that she is cute, and that I wish I had a relationship like that. This wholeHolidatesthing could be fun, but I want someone for forever.

With a sigh, I grab the tablet and start scrolling again, but nothing catches my attention. I tap on the next tab, scanningall the messages until one of them grabs me. The subject line is different from all the hello’s I got in the other ones.

You are who I’ve been looking for…

The only wayfor me to message Ray Parker was to make a new profile with a new location. They wouldn’t allow me to just change it on my original profile, which I found lame and inappropriate. So I put my big girl panties on, created a new email address to use for a new profile that would show that my residence is in the state of New York.

“Yes!” I pump a fist into the air when I see the message button being lit up. I click on it, letting out a long sigh of relief when a new window opens up. It has his name at the top to confirm that I am indeed messaging the person I went through so much trouble to contact.

My fingers hover over the keyboard, wondering what I should say. In the end, I decide that honesty is the best policy. Not taking into consideration my fake location, of course.

Ray,

I’ve been on theHolidatesapp for way too long, with zero success. I can’t tell you how many pictures I browsed through. I was ready to give up when I cameacross yours. You really are who I’ve been looking for. I need a date for my best friend’s wedding where my ex is going to be. I want him to eat his heart out when he sees me with you next to me.

Maybe I am a bit too direct, but I am tired of wasting time on this. Are you open to meet and get to know each other better? I’d prefer they didn’t know we met on this app.

Looking forward to hearing back from you,

Hayden

Not wanting to drag this out, I pressSendwithout even checking my spelling. But I’ve always been good at that, and I doubt I did much damage.

I stare at my inbox for a while, wondering if they have some sort of timeframe when people are supposed to respond by when they receive a message. Because now I have no choice but to obsess over when Ray Parker is going to respond.

“Ugh, this is brutal,” I mumble to myself.

My go to stress reliever is always a Pilates session. I walk over to my workout room and proceed to roll my mat out, debating for just a second if I should start a session on the TV that is attached to the wall or just do some moves off memory. The TV seems like too big of a distraction, so I just start doing my warmup, followed by the rest of the moves I normally do during my workouts.

By the time I stop, a good forty-five minutes has gone by, and I feel so much better. My laptop beckons me, but I fight it. Instead, I take a shower and dress into comfy clothes.

Grabbing a bottle of water from the refrigerator, I walk back to the couch, ready to check my messages. I’m not sure what I am going to do for the rest of the night if this man doesn’t get back to me as fast as I am hoping for.

“Get it together, Hayden,” I tell myself while sipping on the water I brought with me.

I place the bottle on the coffee table, making sure to use a coaster, then grab my laptop and place it over my legs. With a flourish, I open the lid and log in, tapping my fingers impatiently when it takes too long.

As soon as the screen unlocks, I jump into action by clicking on theHolidatesapp. That’s another ten seconds full of torture until I am finally looking at their homepage. My eyes zero in on the inbox, and I almost pass out when I see it lit up with a new message.

“It could be from someone else,” I try to tell myself, wishing like hell one of my friends was here with me to hold my hand through this entire process. But for whatever reason, I don’t want to share this with any of them.

I close my eyes and say a quick prayer before I blindly click on it. I squeal in delight when I do see that I have a message from my newest crush.
