“Please don’t quit the Aces.” I drop my lips to his hands that I still have against my chest. “Please don’t give up on your dream,” I beg. “We can both work on our life goals together.”

Logan uses his feet to roll his chair closer to mine. He leans forward and kisses me softly. It’s a slow kiss that’s full of love and tenderness, the kind of kiss that melts my heart and makes me hope for a bright future together.

“I can’t imagine us not being together,” he murmurs against my lips. “Please forgive me for being such an idiot.” He hesitates for a moment, dropping his head and resting his forehead on our intertwined hands. “If Sebastian was here to hear all this, he’d give me hell…”

My heart breaks for his friend and the current state he is in.

“I’m so sorry this happened.” I rest my head over his. “And I feel terrible for how grateful I am that you didn’t go with him.”

We remain quiet for a little longer, giving us a few moments to reflect on our future and how Sebastian’s outcome may impact not just us, but also a lot of the people we know.

“I love you so much.” When he speaks, his lips touch my bare fingers. “I can’t apologize enough for pushing you away. I promise you that I will do my best to talk things over with you from now on. I want a real relationship with you,” he insists. “I swear.”

I pull my hands away from his and run them through his hair, focusing on the slightly wet spots I see on his temples. He has tears in his eyes.

“I love you, too, Lo. So much. I want nothing more than a real relationship with you. I want it all with you.”

We both lean forward at the same time, ready to seal the deal with a kiss, when we hear a soft knock at the door. We freeze in place, then, in a synchronized move, we both turn our heads to look at the door as it opens just a crack.

“I am very sorry to interrupt what I’m sure is a very moving reunion,” Leyla speaks from the doorway. She stares Logan down. “But her father is about to lose his mind out here as he thinks you’re doing all sorts of illegal things to his daughter. If you do,” she winks, “you should not be sharing the same building as him.”

Logan lets go of me so quickly, I about topple over in my chair. He stands up before grabbing me by the arm and pulling me into him.

“Just talking,” he says, maybe a little too loud, causing both me and Leyla to burst into laughter. I can see my father, who is standing behind Leyla, rolling his eyes at her antics.

“My turn now,” another voice calls out. I furrow my eyebrows, not recognizing who that could be.

An older woman pushes Leyla out of the way and makes her way into the room. She has a very stylish haircut despite her advanced age, and the outfit she has on complements her stocky body.

“Betty!” She opens her arms wide and pulls me into her. When she presses a hand to the back of my head, the side of my face lands on her large breasts. “I am so happy to finally meet you!”

“Aunt Kathy, you’re going to suffocate her.”

“Who’s Betty?” I ask at the same time.

Logan pries out of her arms, a greater feat than either one of us expected.

“This is Sebastian’s aunt,” he introduces the lady. “She and I have spent the last few days together in his room.” He lets out a soft snort of laughter. “She thinks you should go by Betty. Elizabeth is a mouthful,” he explains.

She reaches for his face, but since she’s much shorter, he obliges and leans forward so she can touch him. I’m sure he regrets that when her stubby fingers pinch hard at his cheek.

“He is such a good boy, this one,” she tells me. “He misspoke though, and I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to forgive him.”

Logan, still about bent in half while his cheek is in her clutches, tries to speak. “Aunt Kathy, she already…”

“Take him back, honey,” she begs me. “He truly loves you or he wouldn’t have tortured my poor Bass while hauling all your furniture around.”

She continues talking, at some point also pulling my father and Leyla into the conversation. At first, my father is a bit standoffish, but he warms up to her really quickly, which is a sight to see.

When she lets go of Logan’s cheek, he wraps an arm around my shoulder and pulls me into him.

“I love you like you would not believe,” he whispers in my ear.

My head falls back to stare up at his face. I don’t hear anything that’s being talked about around us, not even when they start laughing, although, I have a feeling it’s got something to do with me and Logan.

I get up on the tips of my toes and stretch myself to give him a kiss.

“We’re going back to Austin,” I tell him in no certain terms. “Together.”
