Van’s suggestion sparks his father’s imagination.
“We could get him a parrot,” Gaston adds.
Aurora sends them alook.
“You men go too far sometimes.”
That starts a wholething. Why Do Women Overreact?is the theme for the men. When Will Men Get AClue?is ours. Aargon grabs his cell and puts his shoes on.
“Barbra, can you take me to Urgent Care? I don’t want to drive back if I’m on pain pills.”
That is some chest deep bullshit. When he pulled his back last year, he drove on Norco every day for a week. But who am I to disagree?
CHAPTER 23
Aargon
“Are you kidding me?”
Barbra sees what I do. Urgent Care is closed. As we slowly drive by the entry, she reads the posted sign.
“They had some kind of plumbing issue. Go to the hospital. It’s only a mile or two away.”
I ignore the throbbing wound and the thick covering the Lyon women formed a committee to apply. I see her looking, as we pull back out to the street.
“Is it coming through?”
“No. I’m just making sure. Does it hurt?”
“No. Don’t worry about it.”
“What a boob I am. I should have removed the jewelry.”
“But then we wouldn’t have such a good story to tell.”
“Tonight was fun. Before I stabbed you, I mean.”
“How about Van and my mother? That was funny as shit.”
“You think Teddy will post the whole thing?”
“Don’t know. I’ve given up trying to control that. I have to pick my battles.”
“I don’t think we did anything too embarrassing.”
I turn my head her way, and we start laughing with the absurdity of the comment.
“You mean other than Van farting, or Teddy calling his aunt a bitch?”
“Those are the things that will probably make it go viral.”
“Oh God.”
My cell alerts me to a text. Teddy.
“Where are you?”
“On the way to Emergency. St. Vincent’s. UC was closed.”
