I was starting to get Gareth. He came off cold, but he cared deeply for his people. Gareth was kin.

Did I like that he knew what it felt like to be inside my bunny? No, I freaking did not. But I could learn to live with it as long as he never did it again.

Gareth was someone I wanted in my corner. He was hard and overbearing in a way I refused to be, but I got him. And I had a feeling he got me too.

“Adam, sweetie, are you okay?” Apple hopped down and pawed at the large man until he assured himself that he was unscathed.

“I’m fine.”

I had no idea why Apple was so worried. He was almost half the man’s size and would have been far more likely to get seriously injured in an explosion than Adam would have.

Everyone there seemed relieved that Adam was okay though, so there must have been something I was missing. He was clearly deeply cared for by the entire family.

My crow chose that moment to inform me that the fire human was getting away.

Injury forgotten, I got to my feet. “He’s still here. Someone take Vix.” I made to pass him to the closest person, and it happened to be Adam.

“No! Don’t give him to Adam!” Baz shouted.

“We’ve had enough explosions, for the day, Paris,” Vale added.

“Adam, go in the house!” Apple started shoving Adam toward the house.

“The house is on fire, Apple. Don’t make it worse.”

“Shit, you’re right.I’llgo inside the house and the fire can put itself out. Adam, you get in the Adam car.”

“I refuse to get inside that ugly monstrosity, and you arenotgoing into a burning building,” Adam said with a scowl.

“The Adam car?” I asked, feeling hopelessly at sea. “Why is Apple going into a burning building?”

“I’ll bring it around,” Vix said, still in my arms and still poking away at his phone. “And don’t worry about Apple, he’ll be fine. My fire suppression system already has most of the fires taken care of, and if there’s anything left, he’ll probably sneeze it out or something.”

“I need to go.” I also needed to know more about Apple and Adam, but the opportunity to catch the person who blew up Vix’s house was about to vanish.

I handed Vix to Vale, but Gareth said, “Give him to me. Vale, you go with Paris, and I’ll take Vix. Apple, don’t go into the house. Go with Baz to the back and find the bomb once Adam is in the Adam car.”

Adam scowled harder and mumbled something that sounded like a bunch of swears.

The ugly car from the garage pulled up next to the sidewalk. Suddenly, Vix’s comment earlier about Adam’s bad luck and the ugly car he’d made for him gelled together with all of the other vague comments made by everyone else, and I finally understood what was up with Adam. I was pretty sure that, whatever it was that made Apple the way he was, the opposite was true for Adam.

Poor guy. No wonder everyone was so worried about him, but if that was the Adam car, I wouldn’t want to get inside the god forsaken thing either.

“I made the Adam car,” Vix announced proudly as Vale tossed Vix in Gareth’s direction like he was unwanted baggage.

What an asshole. I decided then and there to never give Vale my bunny again.

“It’s a wonderful car, bunny,” I said, suddenly discovering a newfound appreciation for the Adam car.

It probably had amazing features, and I couldn’t wait to learn about them. Later though.

At that moment, I had something more important to do.

Chapter16

Paris

Iconsulted with the crows once more before running in the direction of the firebug who’d been messing up the past twenty-four hours of my life. I turned around to run backward so I could shout to Vix. “I’ll see you in a few minutes, sweetheart.”
