“Did you just…” Travis began.

“I think…” said Traviel.

Someone knocked on our door.

“I’ve got it,” I said. Delighted by my newly healed incision, I jogged to the door and opened it to find Rosemary Vale. “Good evening, ma’am.”

“Just checking in,” she said. She glanced behind me and caught sight of the elf and man. “Oh! I see you figured something out.”

I quickly explained how Travis had sacrificed his own chance to be Traviel, instead choosing to let the two of us stay as we were, leaving Travis to figure out his own way.

“Well,” Rosemary said, when I was done. “It pleases me to more officially welcome you, and your child, to Vale Valley.” She crossed the room to Travis. “As for you, even though you were led here by a wish, I firmly believe Vale Valley still wanted you here. I hope you’ll consider it your home.”

“I can… stay?” Travis asked.

The werewolf matron nodded. “As long as you—” she quirked an eyebrow, “—wishto.”

I couldn’t remember a more blissful evening in bed with Traviel. At last, I had no fear of him vanishing in the night. I knew I’d fall asleep in his arms, and wake in the in the morning. I reached out one hand and rested it against the bassinet by the bed. I could hear Kirielm softly breathing.

“Heaven,” I murmured.

“Agreed,” said Traviel. He grabbed my shoulder and rolled me toward him. As soon as I was on my back, he leaned over me and kissed me.

I kissed back, burying my fists in his hair. He swung a leg over me, pressing me down. His hard length dug into my thigh and I jerked my hips against it. Traviel moaned against my mouth and ground himself against my own erection.

A chuckle escaped me as I remembered that one time he vanished in the middle of sex.

“What’s funny?” he asked, nipping at my bottom lip.

“Just happy. So, so happy.” I caught his earlobe in my mouth and tugged lightly. “No more vanishing.”

“No more interruptions,” he said. I could feel his smile against my cheek. One hand slid down under my pants. “And, thanks to that genie, we don’t have to wait eight weeks to have sex.”

“You read my mind,” I teased. My words ended with a gasp as his hand wrapped around my penis.

Kirielm started crying.

Epilogue

Travis

The elves generously let me spend the night. Breakfast was a bit strange, but we had so much to talk about. They were curious, genuinely curious, about my stories and how they came to be. Traviel was pleased to discover he started out as an adventurer.

And I had a million questions about their lives in Vale Valley. Not just what I missed while awake, but if they were happy with how I’d created them, the life I’d sketched out for them. To my great joy, they were.

At last, Elarian reminded both of us that today was the Fourth of July, and that he and Traviel hadn’t gotten to put in much time at the music festival. They invited me along, so I got ready. It was nice to finally shower. Since Traviel and I were the same size, he was happy to lend me some clothes.

We went out the backdoor and into the woods, taking a pleasant route. I was introduced to a bunch of people, many I recognized from the dreams. And a few who had been in the house the night before. Traviel and Elarian showed off their baby, and drummed up their business. Rex, who I recognized from pictures was excited to get on the schedule and Traviel promised to come the next day.

We wanted to stay for the fireworks, but by the time dusk drew near, we were all exhausted and Kirielm was getting fussy. Instead of walking, we caught a ride back home and all got out.

“Whoa,” Traviel said as we stepped onto the sidewalk. “Was that always there?” He pointed across the street.

“What?” I asked. I looked for a moment, then realized the wooded lot across the street had a house on it. A little cottage-like bungalow, not unlike Traviel and Elarian’s house.

“Who is that?” Elarian asked, pointing. There was someone in the driveway.
