“I hear business is good?” Cambry pressed his phone to his ear with his shoulder and returned to cleaning off the counter, nodding along to whoever Eric was. “Yeah, yeah. Believe me, I’d love to book a shoot. It’s a little hard to get there, you know?” He laughed at what must have been an inside joke. “You have a name for your studio now, right? Picture Purrfect? P-u-r-r? I love it!” He vanished into the back room, still talking on the phone.
I typed it into Google and frowned when nothing came up except the suggestion I spelled perfect wrong. I tried again.
picture purrfect vale valley
A single result came up. It looked like a photography site. I clicked on it and was disappointed to see there was a password. I hit enter, just for the hell of it, and the site loaded.
“Whoa… magic,” I chuckled.
I opened the portfolio and was greeted by a photo of snow leopard and a deer. “Wow,” I breathed. They looked real. I looked closer, studying them. They wereveryreal. Actually, the deer looked like it may have been a reindeer. It also had a large, distended belly, like it was pregnant. I would have thought it was some sort of Christmas themed project, if not for the fact it was dated from early February. Weird theme for Valentine’s Day…
I clicked through a couple more and came across a man with the snow leopard! There was no way it was real! But it sure looked like it… And then, I found one of a different man with the reindeer. Maybe theywerereal animals. Could you domesticate snow leopards?
The next photo was a weird one of a guy kneeling and kissing another guy’s chubby stomach. It was like a weird maternity shoot parody. As I went through, it started to look less like a joke and more like a real maternity, or rather paternity, series. Then, the couple changed to another, with yet another pregnant-looking man. The longer I clicked though, the stranger it seemed to get. It was full of animals and people, and several pregnant men. Then, a series of what appeared to be two fathers with a child. What sort of photography business was this?
The theme changed from people to places, and I found myself looking at a series of photos from a cozy looking town. It had a homey feel to it, with beautiful little homes and shops. If this was Vale Valley, it was wonderful.
Long after I left the coffee shop, I was thinking about the gallery. My head was whirling with the inspiration for Traviel and Elarian’s new home.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about the idea of male pregnancy. It didn’t sound up Traviel’s alley, but Elarian…

“Here we are!” Traviel scooped up Elarian and carried him up the porch steps an into the house.
“Hey!” Elarian laughed, kicking his legs. “Put me down!” Traviel gently returned him to the floor. “That’s supposed to be for newlyweds.”
“We just moved into a new house; we have to celebrate somehow.”
Elarian slipped by him and back outside to grab a box. “Tonight, with dinner.”
“Deal.”
The elves were overjoyed to find their dream house in a little town called Vale Valley. It was a magical place, full of strange and wonderful creatures, like people who could turn into animals. Their house was a cozy bungalow, nestled into the woods near the lake. They had a large yard, with a patchwork of shade and sun.
They spent most of the day carrying in boxes and unpacking. By evening, the once empty house was starting to look more like a home. The floors were warm, wooden boards, and the exposed ceiling and wall beams gave it a rustic feel. A large, stone fireplace dominated one wall of their living room, and the other three walls were lined with bookshelves. A few even had some books and knick-knacks set out.
“I’m hungry,” Traviel announced. “Shall we take a break?”
“I saw a place called Bella’s Diner that looked good,” Elarian said.
“Great, let’s go.”
Chapter Two
“The lake is beautiful,” Elarian said, as they walked hand in hand along the banks.
Traviel nodded in agreement. Other houses peaked out between the trees as the wandered down a trail. They ended in a gazebo by the water, just in time for the sunset.
“I’m glad we chose Vale Valley,” Elarian said. “It’s perfect.”
“Only because you’re here with me,” Traviel teased.
He leaned down to kiss Elarian on the cheek, but the elf turned, and met him halfway with his lips. Traviel ran his fingers through Elarian’s hair. His other hand trailed down to the small of Elarian’s back, and pulled him closer. Elarian wrapped his arms around his mate’s shoulders and sighed contently.

Traviel cleared the dishes off the table, then went to stand behind Elarian’s chair. The shorter elf began to stand, but Traviel stopped him by wrapping his arms around him.
