To my surprise, he laughed and I could see he was flushing. “Ugh. I’ve been trying to think of what to say and I finally had something eloquent and it came outallwrong. What I meant to say…” He cleared his throat awkwardly and took a long sip of cocoa. “What I meant is that I kind of… like you… and this morning was… nice.”
My dick strained in my pants just thinking about it.
“And I'd like to maybe date you, I guess…” Zeph blurted.
“I.. I…” I stammered.
“Now, I do feel really awkward dating someone that I'm also employing,” he continued with a nervous laugh. “But, if you also want to, you know, change our relationship like that, I want to keep paying you, because I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to trick you into working for free or anything and taking advantage of you. But I would like to… to discuss that.” He turned away, embarrassed.
I found myself grinning as I mulled over his words. “I think I'd like that too.”
He looked up at me with a smile. “Really?”
“Yeah. I like you too.” I laughed. “And this morning was… wonderful. And I wouldneverthink you were taking advantage of me but… with my luck and the curse… I’m sorry, I don’t mean to…”
To my surprise, he nodded in understanding. “I’m sure that you're worried that even if my intentions are good, that something is going to happen because of the curse, and then you'll be left having worked for who knows how long for free. Stuck with no money, no job, and no boyfriend”
I nodded.
Zeph took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze; I eagerly laced our fingers together. “Then for now, I'll keep paying you. And if this all works out, eventually I'll stop but…” He burst out laughing and turned away. “Wow, I was getting ahead of myself...”
“Eventually you'll?” I pressed, concerned about what he found so funny.
He flashed me a cute smile and said, “Well, if everything does work out someday I'll just add you to my bank account.”
I laughed in disbelief and then said, “Yeah, you might be getting a little ahead of yourself there.” I followed that up with an impulsive kiss on his cheek to soften the joke.
Before I could pull away he turned and caught my lips with his. I leaned into his warm kiss, basking as he put an arm around me.
“We never romp,” he whispered against my lips.
“Let’s.”
With that, we downed our cocoa and then shifted. Our fur was thick enough to block the icy rain, so we ran all around the yard, pouncing on and nipping each other. We raced and dove through bushes and even scurried under the porch. He was a handsome fox, with sleek rusty-red fur and the fluffiest tail I had ever seen. Once we paused to catch our breath and he wrapped his luxurious tail around me as we snuggled.
When we were tired and cold, we went inside for a hot shower. The plumber had come and found a huge wad of cat vomit in his drain, go figure, so we took advantage of Zeph’s newly cleaned, much larger shower.
We repeated our morning antics, twice this time, leaving us snuggling against each other again for a very different reason.
I checked on Mindy and to my delight found that sometime during our romping Rosie had joined her. The two had sleeping bags set up and were sound asleep on the floor, with Tau snuggled up between them, purring softly in her sleep. Grinning, I tip-toed out the room and rejoined Zeph in his.
The two of us curled up together in his bed and fell asleep. It was the soundest sleep I had enjoyed in a long time. When I awoke, I just reveled in being in his arms… before I remembered I was cursed, anyway…
I sighed sadly and closed my eyes, snuggling closer to him, knowing this couldn’t last.
