“It’s okay, you have a seat. I can make some grilled cheese.”
He sat, still looking a bit pale. After I got the kitchen aired out I started up another pan, but as soon as the cheese started warming up, he made a face and left the room.
This time, I turned off the stove before following. Once again, Theo was in the bathroom, bent over near the toilet.
“Theo?” I asked in alarm.
“I’m okay,” he said. “I just… that smell… is it different cheese?”
I shook my head. “It’s the same cheese, you’ve been using. Are you sure it’s the cheese making you sick?”
“Yeah, the smell is just horrible.”
“That’s… odd,” I said, smiling in the hopes of softening my words.
“It is,” Theo agreed. “I haven’t thrown up since…” His eyes widened and he gasped.
“Since?” I prompted.
His eyes locked onto mine. “Since I was pregnant with Mindy.”
“Oh my god,” I gasped. Wehadbeen using protection… but not since that first spontaneous morning in the shower.
“Do you think you’re…”
“I don’t know… maybe?” he said.
“Do you want me to… buy you a test?” I asked.
He nodded.
Theo didn’t just look alarmed, he looked downright scared. Damn that curse. I crossed to him and took him in my arms.
“It’ll be okay,” I promised. “I love you.”
His arms tightened around me. “I love you too,” he murmured into my chest.
Even though we weren’t sure if he was pregnant, I pressed a hand to his stomach and then kissed him.
