“Great.”
First, I brought Theo to the guest room, where he’d be staying, to drop off his bags. I opened the door to the adjoining room.
“This is set up as a sitting room right now,” I said, “But it has a futon so we can rearrange it a bit for your daughter.” I turned and to my surprise his eyes were brimming with tears. “Are you alright?”
“It’s just… Mindy has never had a room of her very own…” he choked.
Suddenly, the futon didn’t seem to be enough. I decided that I wouldn’t go nuts yet, but after a couple of weeks, if things were working out, I’d make sure Mindy’s room got a makeover.
“Right then, let’s finish the tour,” I said.
The very next stop was the guest bathroom and I could tell by his expression that he found even my spare bathroom a nice change.
As we walked through the rest of the house, I explained exactly what I wanted from a live-in PA. Light cleaning, helping to keep an eye on Rosie, cooking, and then helping me with paperwork, emails, and phone calls for my consulting business. Things had taken off for me recently and while the influx of new clients – not to mention the cash flow – was great, it meant a lot of other things were starting to slip.
“Thank you, Mr. Ze.. I mean Zeph,” said Theo, shaking my hand after we were done. “I really appreciate this chance.” He hesitated and then said, “I just… I just want you to know that you might want to keep conducting interviews… once the curse kicks in…”
Tau rubbed against his leg and purred.
“Let’s think positive,” I said. “Now, I’ve got to get back to work. Why don’t you keep an eye on the girls and familiarize yourself with the kitchen. We’ve got makings for grilled cheese, if that works.”
“Not a problem,” Theo said.
I lost myself in my office for a hour and honestly almost forgot he was here. My lunch alarm went off and I headed down the hall to the kitchen. For a moment, I was confused by the delicious smell and sound of giggling girls, then I remembered Theo. Good, he had lunch started.
It looked like Rosie and Mindy had hit it off. They were sitting next to each other at the counter, happily eating grilled cheese. I noticed the bread was cut into fun shapes, something I never had time to do. The girls also had what looked like apple slices cut into stars.
“How did you do the stars?” I asked in surprise.
“I found a cookie cutter,” Theo said. As he spoke, he held out a plate toward me.
I looked at the grilled cheese in surprise. “Oh! I um…”
“Did you want a shape too?” he teased, flashing me a charming smile.
“I just didn’t expect you to make me lunch too,” I said, taking the plate before he got the wrong idea. “Thank you!”
“Sure thing.”
I took a bite and to my surprise it wasn’t just a simple grilled cheese, it was topped with two types of cheese and a thin-sliced tomato and had a light peppery taste.
“This is amazing!” I gasped. Should’ve hired an omega sooner!
Theo smiled and flushed.
I took another bite and grinned. This was going to work out beautifully, curse or no curse.
