I huff out a garbled laugh and wipe away the tears. “This is certainly the stupidest thing I have ever done. It makes the stuff Tanner has done look like child’s play.”
“That’s the bloody truth,” Vi says with a small laugh.
Tanner nods knowingly. “I do have to hand it to you, Allie. It is a grade-A fuck-up and I’m mildly jealous about losing the Biggest Harris Screw-up throne.”
Vi laughs and turns to face me, hitting me with her bright blue eyes as she says, “Regardless, it doesn’t change how much we love you and how much you are still a part of this family and always will be.”
I pull Vi in for a hug, needing the affection and comfort more than I realised. “Thank you,” I croak and pull back, sniffing loudly. “But, honestly, finding a job in London with the reputation I have now is going to be hard. I think I owe it to my dad to do the interviews in Chicago. Perhaps he and I can have a fresh start now that the Rosalie drama is behind us.”
Vi looks around at everyone, clearly not liking the idea but holding her tongue. “If going back to Chicago is what you need, we’ll support you. But we’re always here when you need us.”
I nod and exhale deeply, believing that more now than I ever did before. But there’s still one very important thing I have to take care of before I leave.
