Yo. Leila was just in for breakfast.
Matteo
She lives twenty paces from your door. How is this news?
Zara
Her order changed! She asked for a half caf coffee and two muffins. Usually she orders a regular coffee and one muffin.
Is there something you need to tell me?
Matteo
That’s classified.
Zara
OMG. OMG!
Matteo
I didn’t SAY anything!
Zara
OMG.
Matteo
Classified. Seriously.
Oh boy. I knew this day would come, but I expected to have a little more time before my sister caught wind of Leila’s pregnancy.
I’ve spent the last month trying to get my own head around it. The fact of Leila’s pregnancy has brought my whole life into sharper relief. The highs are higher and the lows are lower.
And I can’t stop worrying about her and the baby. I sit up at night and read articles about early pregnancy. So much can go wrong. And when I’d asked her last month how she felt, she’d said she wasscared.
I think about that a lot. And I worry.
Hence the text I’m sending her now.
Psst. Thinking about you and the baby. How are you both?
Leila
We’re good. Always hungry. I just bought a book that says I need to make every mouthful count. Super healthy. Kale smoothies and mixed nuts.
Matteo
So you’re having a lot of kale smoothies?
Leila
Nope. Threw that book in the recycling bin. I’m eating a muffin from your sister’s coffee shop. Blueberry, but I have a lemon one on reserve.
Matteo
Warning: I just heard about this. Your breakfast order changed a little to half caf and two muffins, and now Zara is over there freaking out.
