“Thanks for keeping me safe.”

In no time, Gavin was human again and wrapping his arms around Kyler, drawing him into a dozen kisses.

“You’re okay?”

Kyler laughed and peppered his own kisses along Gavin’s jawline. “I’m good.” He rocked his hips and Gavin didn’t think he realized.

“What were you thinking about up there? You kept sending out your haze.”

Kyler swallowed and looked away before meeting Gavin’s gaze again. “What it’d feel like to ride your cock.”

Gavin’s eyes widened. “Thewholetime?”

Another swallow. “Maybe.”

Gavin snorted. “Come on, they’re waiting for us.”

“Your Royal Highness,” an attendant broke Gavin’s attention from Kyler. “Your clothes.”

Ah. Right. Clothes.

Kyler licked his lips as his eyes raked over Gavin’s body. Gavin wanted to stay naked, to keep having Kyler look at him like that. He wondered how strong the mer’s will would be when it came to having sex. Gavin would never force himself on the man. His cock would just make life difficult for the time they still had together. He gave Kyler a show as he dressed, making sure to accentuate his assets. They were the only two in the world as far as Gavin was concerned until Damon snorted from the rowboat and Ailey called for them to hurry up.

When they made their way to the rowboat, Gavin pulled Kyler into his lap, causing Ailey to roll her eyes. Honestly, he didn’t want to sit with his erection on full display and, of course, he hoped Kyler would perhaps squirm. Kyler leaned in and whispered against Gavin’s lips, “be good and we can help each other out tonight.” The kiss was sweet and Gavin wanted to melt into it, but Ailey cleared her throat, drawing Kyler away from his lips.

Whatever had bothered Ailey at the beach seemed to still bother her. He opened his mouth to talk, but she held up her hand and shook her head. “Wait until we have privacy.” She nodded to the men with the oars. “We’re ready.” And off they went, rowing them to the ship.

Gavin was not looking forward to this talk. She probably wanted to discuss how childish he was, like Damon had. If that was the case, he’d tune her out like a child. He was a grown man and didn’t need people telling him how to act. Not when his plan was to leave the palace entirely once he passed the phoenix stone over to His Majesty. He should probably worry more about why His Majesty wanted the stone. There were reasons it was sunk into the sea centuries ago.

Chapter 18

Kylerwassogladto be back on… well, not solid ground. But at least out of the air. He didn’t think he could take the saddle much longer. The atmosphere ahead shifted to one of excitement the closer they got to the ship. It wasn’t as big as Captain Vex’s, Kyler supposed it didn’t need to be. It just needed to be fast, ideally faster than any of the pirate ships. He wondered if they knew pirates populated these waters, surely they had to know.

It seemed the entire crew gathered at the rails to watch them row in. How unusual.

“What’s wrong, love?” Gavin held his hand and brought it to his lips to kiss Kyler’s knuckles.

Kyler leaned in. “Something isn’t right,” he whispered.

They were close enough to hear someone whoop and watch the crew dance on deck.

“There he is! Can you see ‘em?!” someone shouted. “Sails, he’s gorgeous.”

Gavin was gorgeous. Kyler couldn’t deny it.

“I ain’t never seen a mer!” someone else cried.

Kyler’s heart stopped. No one was supposed to know. Gavin shifted under him, holding him close as he stood and rocked the boat.

“I trusted you,” Gavin yelled at Damon.

Damon took it in stride. “When would I have told anyone? What motive would I have?”

“I don’t—”

“No,” Kyler whispered. He’d found the culprit on the ship. Jessi smiled at him and waved before she turned to get lost in the crowd. “It wasn’t Damon.”

Gavin glared at his guard, and Kyler took the opportunity to distract the prince by grinding against him. “It wasn’t Damon.”
