Gavin’s heart ached.
“This is my choice. And I want you to fill my slit with your big dragon cock. Please.”
Gavin groaned. “Don’t say things like that.”
“I need you, prince.” Kyler nipped at Gavin’s lips. “You can add the experiment to your research papers on merfolk.”
“You’re not an experiment to me,” Gavin pressed his lips to Kyler’s again, rocking his hand to give Kyler’s cock something to brush against.
When he pulled away, a confused look graced Kyler’s face.
“What’s wrong?” Gavin removed his hand and wrapped his arms around Kyler’s waist.
“You don’t want touseme. Not like everyone else.”
The words broke Gavin’s heart. “But Iamusing you.”
“No.” Kyler shook his head. “No, you’re giving me favors for a service. I play this part to make people think you’re pair-bonded. And I give you the mer kiss so you can retrieve the phoenix stone. I’m going with you, though. You don’t have any way to defend yourself if something tries to attack you.”
“You’re letting me examine you for my own benefit.”
Again, Kyler shook his head. “I don’t feel that way. You’ve taught me about myself too, through my parents’ journal. It’s been an equal exchange in my eyes. And I know you want this.” Kyler took Gavin’s hand to trail down his slick slit again. “But if I say no, you’d back off.”
“I would.”
“I’ve never had that before,” Kyler said so softly Gavin strained to hear him.
“Kyler, I hate that you’ve lived like that.” Gavin couldn’t help himself from cupping Kyler’s cheeks. “You have no idea how you’ve helped me realize my dreams. I never thought I’d meet a merfolk, I’d been looking all my life. We don’t have to do anything you don’t want. I’ll cherish every moment we have together for eternity.” Gavin meant every word. He wouldn’t touch Kyler again if that’s what the man wanted.
“Have you ever loved someone before?”
The question threw Gavin off guard; he shook his head. “I’ve never gotten close enough to anyone to try. I was supposed to marry Ailey. Why bother when my future was already planned? I know my mother loved me. My brothers do too, and I love them. But romantically, I never gave anyone a chance.”
“I was always too afraid to try because what would Vex do if he found out? I couldn’t risk it.”
“You’ve had to hide so much of yourself, haven’t you?” Gavin hated it. Kyler should be free with other merfolk living a happy life in the sea. Not bound to a heartless pirate captain.
“Too much.” Kyler lifted his head. “I think I could fall in love with you, though. And it scares me.” Kyler let him go and dove under the water.
Gavin had to tread water as Kyler swam circles around him, letting him watch how his body moved so perfectly. Gracefully. Gavin knew he could find himself falling in love with Kyler. Knew he already was, even though it’d only been a handful of days. Kyler was sweet and clever. Daring. Gavin wanted to watch the light spark in his eyes and make him smile. Wanted to make him forget about his life with an evil pirate.
Kyler swam in circles, going wider and wider, but still close enough if another sea creature came upon their spot that Kyler could ward them away.
Finally, Kyler surfaced, bobbing in the water, watching Gavin. “Sorry. I needed to clear my head.”
“No need to apologize.”
Kyler nodded once. “Let’s test this kiss.”
“Right.” Nerves rolled through Gavin. He was ready, yet terrified.
“I won’t let you really drown.”
“I know.”
“But you’re going to hate what I have to do.”
Kyler would have to hold him under and with Gavin not being a strong swimmer, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
