I take a deep breath and try to keep from grinding my teeth. From what I understand of humans, everything Mick just said would be a violation. Especially using his seduction without permission.
“Cy just moved here to Rivenfield. Probably to get away from me. He broke up with me over text. Can you believe that? How messed up. And he’s already moving on. I found him with an active profile on Monster Match. So I figured you can help him realizeI’mthe best he’ll ever get.”
“Ew, broke up by text? That’s so immature.”
“Right?”
There has to be a reason Cyrus broke up via text and I plan to get to the bottom of it. This Cyrus deserves better than a merman that used him.
“How long would you like the nightmares to last?”
Mick taps his lips. “Do it until he comes back to me. But I still want you to do your nightmare thing so I can comfort him. Let’s say, three months?”
More alerts ring out in my head. “Three months is one inch of unicorn hair or three hundred dollars.”
“That’s a little steep, don’t you think?”
“Everyone else has said it’s a fair price.”
“And how many clients have you taken?” Mick leans back with a smug look on his face, as if he has me.
“I’ve been doing this for a month and you’re my twenty-third client.”
“Oh. Okay. So I guess it is a fair price. Do I pay upfront or—”
“I give you three nights so you get a feel for what I’m doing.”
“Okay, I’ll get you the payment in three nights. We have a deal?” Mick holds out his hand.
“Deal.” We shake and yet again he tries his seduction. “You’re going to keep being disappointed if you keep trying that on me.” I let a little of my shadow linger around his wrist to go home with him. I need to keep an eye on him. “I just need to find Cyrus on Monster Match and confirm it’s him and we’ll be all set.”
“I hear you like to calibrate your monster type in the app to the victim. Cy’s a weird yet incredibly sexy bargain, bitch goth.”
“What does that mean?”
“He’s into dark shit. He’ll love that you’re a Nightmare.”
“Ah. How about you find him for me?” I open the app on my phone and update my monster type and username, then pass over my phone with the app open. Being the creator of the app, Dani modified my account so I can change whatever I need tofor my little business venture. I’m the only special one that can change their monster type or username whenever I want.
It doesn’t take Mick long to find the human.
“Here.” He passes my phone back. Cy’s eyes really are stunning. “It’s funny, we didn’t even meet on Monster Match.”
I shoot Cyrus a message. “Now, I wait. If he doesn’t respond, I’ll let you know.”
“Oh, he works the overnight shift at the hospital. Always pissed me off. We could never do anything like normal people.”
“But does he like his job?”
“Dunno, I just know he’s a nurse, and he transferred to Rivenfield Hospital a few weeks ago.”
“You really don’t know much about a guy you dated for six months.”
“Wasn’t my fault. All he wanted was to meet up to get fucked.”
I have a feeling that wasn’t it at all. “Don’t worry, I’ll scare him so he can’t sleep for a week.” Actually a lie, but Mick doesn’t need to know that.
“Three months. That’s the deal.” Mick pushes to his feet. “I’ll be seeing ya.”
