Dani snorts. “I thought you said Nightmares don’t have fated mates.”
“I dunno, okay? My cousin says it’s possible, and I choose to believe it and that Cy is mine.”
“Okay, but you need to tell him sometime. He deserves to know the truth.”
“You’re probably right.” I plop onto the couch. “But back to making him immortal. Is it possible?” I look the orc dead in the eye.
“Theoretically, I can create an ink with your shadows that can bind him to you, yes.” I open my mouth, but he lifts a hand to add, “but have you asked him? It needs to be consensual or I don’t think it’d work.”
“I’ll get his permission.”
“I mean,” Dani starts. “It’s not like you can get him tatted without his permission, anyway. He’ll definitely know.”
I steeple my fingers and point to him. “True. All good points. I need to tell him about how we truly started because of Mick. And I need to make sure he wants to be mine forever.” True forever, because I am eternal.
“Are you sure you aren’t going too fast on the eternity thing?” Maddox asks.
“Dunno. I just know the idea of him not being around makes me angry.”
“Give him time, Nox. He’s human. The idea of forever is daunting,” Dani says. He’s not being mean about it, but his words still make my stomach shadows swim.
I nod. “Okay. You’re probably right.”
Dani squeezes my shoulder. “It’ll be okay.”
“If you say so.”
“He’s still pretty young,” Maddox adds. “He’s not even thirty.”
“True.”
“Just take it slow, Nox, there’s no rush,” Dani says.
“Okay, okay. I’ll slow my roll, but…” I look Maddox dead in the eye. “I’m serious about the tattoo if he’s interested. Can you do it?”
“Yeah. I might have to do a bit of research, but it’s possible.”
“That’s all I need to know.” I nod. “Thanks. I think I need to pay a few of my victims a visit tonight for nightmares.”
Jaxy Poo gets a visit for sure. My snack bag doesn’t appeal to me tonight, and I just terrorize him with fire for hours on end and slurp down his delicious fear.

In the hospital locker room, I turn my phone on after my shift and get a flurry of notifications.

I smile at my phone. It was a long few nights, and just knowing Nox was thinking about me gives me butterflies.

I change out of my scrubs and pull on black jeans and a plain black t-shirt. I need to grab some groceries. So my plan is the store, then the gym, then a date if he’s interested.
