“Stay right there.” He pulls the condom off and ties off the end before leaving me for the bathroom. The water turns on and off. He’s back with a warm wash rag before I can even miss him. “Iused a lot of lube, so I want to clean you up.” He’s so gentle as he wipes me clean. It makes me feel like a prince being pampered.
He throws the wash rag on the floor before climbing back into bed and cuddling me close.
Chapter 24
Nox
Music pumps through my tv. Dani and I are having a proper dance party tonight with a bunch of snacks. Too bad Cyrus has to work, otherwise I’d have invited him.
“Cyrus forgave me! We had sex! And it was amazing.”
“Make up sex is the best kind of sex,” Dani yells over the music.
I turn the music down a smidgen. “Come to find out the blowies and rubbing were all sex, too. Sex is weird and wonderful. But I’m glad I waited for Cyrus. I didn’t even know Iwaswaiting for Cyrus.”
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” Dani gives me the biggest grin. “So how is it?”
I give it a few thoughts. “Like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.”
Cyrus keeps surprising me. After all these years, therearethings that can keep me guessing. Not that I think sex was missing in my life. If tomorrow Cyrus decided he never wanted to have sex with me again, that’d be fine. But for me, he’s the only one. No one else has ever made me feel the way I do with him. Like life finally has meaning again.
Dani grins. “You are totally in love with him. It’s a good look on you.”
“My nonexisting heart flutters so hard around him.”
We clasp hands and jump around, getting lost in the music. I never knew what it’d be like having friends. This human has made me realize Ihavebeen missing that in my life. But Cyrus is the one that truly pushed me into understanding what love is.
Chapter 25
Cyrus
I’ve been in Rivenfield for about three months now. Rivenfield Hospital has to be the best in the world, and I tell Devon every chance I get.
So when she called me this morning, I wasn’t too surprised about half the news she gave me.
Now I stare at my phone. There’s a bright grin on Devon’s face, and I can’t help but match her. My heart pounds and it takes everything in me not to cry.
“Say something, Cy!”
“You’re pregnantandmoving to Rivenfield?”
“Yes! I’ve been dying to tell you, but everything had to fall into place first.”
“When will you be here? When are you due?”
“Only about eight weeks along, and I’ll be there in two weeks. We found this amazing house with a realtor. She gave us avirtual tour. It’ll be a good house to raise kids in. I can’t wait to see you again, Cy. I—we’vemissed you.”
“You don’t have to move here, though. Not—”
Devon holds up her hand. “Norris and I don’t have family here. And we want to raise our child where they can learn to accept everyone. Not like here. You seem to enjoy Rivenfield, so I figured it’s gotta be a good place.”
“Except for Mick.”
“True.” Devon sighs. “But besides Mick, the place is really great, right?”
“Yeah. I love it—”
“And a certain Nightmare keeps you entertained.”
