“Here’s to you Alfie.” I raise my Thermos and drink down a few mouthfuls of the delectable sweet treat. Now it’s time to rest before the big day and I choose who I send to their fated mate next.

Chapter 15

Pisces

I dropmy hands to my hips and look at my beautiful nest in the corner of our bedroom. There’s something missing. I throw another handful of dry hay into the nest, but that’s not it. Alfie waits patiently behind me and I figure out what’s missing.

“Where is he?” I look frantically for my stuffed rabbit that looks just like my rabbit form. “He’s not here. Where’s Ralphie?” Tears swim in my eyes. “He needs?—”

“Here he is.” Alfie kisses my shoulder and hands me the stuffie.

“There you are.” I squeeze him close and a rush of water flows from me. “Oh!”

“Did—”

“Yeah! My water just broke.” I tremble and can’t move. This is it. Go time.

“Come on, little daddy.” Alfie scoops me up and I can’t help the laugh.

“Ew, I don’t like that and put me down. I want a shower before we go anywhere.”

“But—”

“Shower or I’ll cry. I don’t want to go to the hospital in…” I wave to my now soaked sweatpants.

“Ah, good point.” Alfie pivots and takes me to the bathroom, where he sets me gently on the shower stool we now have.

“I’m scared,” I admit as I work to strip.

“Me too, but good scared, you know?”

I nod, and he climbs into the shower with me to help clean me up.

“I hope it’s fast. I don’t like pain,” I say as the first contraction starts. I grip his forearms tightly and his eyes go wide.

We get out and he helps dress me, then I’m back in his arms on the way to the car. I send Yolanda a text as promised.

Pisces: Babies coming.

Yolanda: ::screams!!:: FINALLY!!!

Pisces: I can’t wait for these babies to get out of me!!

Yolanda: They are going to be so sweet. Just like you and Alfie. We’ll hold down the fort. You take as long as you need.

I’m so grateful for our friendship. She’s already given me so much advice on triplets, too.

We get to the hospital as my contractions get closer together. Alfie gets us checked in and I’m in a lovely birthing suite before I can even sit in the waiting room. Hospital smells irritate my rabbit. Alfie paces around me as nurses come in and out doing whatever it is they do.

We’re here for around three hours before everything ramps up. I swear Alfie is going to climb the walls if these babies don’t pop out of me soon. We hadn’t discussed names because we wanted to be inspired. Right now, I’m running through names tokeep me occupied. It’s Christmas day and I think holiday themed names would be adorable. That’s what Yolanda did, and her kids were born on Halloween. Yolanda had three girls, she and Shelia, named Buffy, Winifred, and Clarice.

“Are we ready, papas?” A beta doctor walks into the room.

“Yes, please and thank you,” I grit out through another contraction.

“Perfect!” The doctor settles between my legs and smiles. Why the hell are they smiling? “How about we switch to a better birthing position?”

I nod and before I know it, I’m holding three babies to my chest. All three have rabbit ears just like mine.
