Clay: Whatever is going on bothered you. I’d like to help if I can.
I pace my living room and chew on my thumbnail. When I don’t answer after five minutes, my phone buzzes.
“Hello?” Who the heck calls these days? Apparently Clay. Well, and Rory.
“I’m not joking, Milo. If you need a shoulder to lean on, I’m here for you. And I really do love cuddles. It’ll be nice after such a long day.”
“You’re sure?” I basically whisper.
“Positive. I’ll grab us something for dinner and be over in a few hours if that works?”
“You don’t?—”
“I want to, Milo.”
“Okay.” I scratch at my elbow and stare at the wall. Why does just the thought of him coming over tonight wash me with relief?
“Any special requests?” Clay asks.
“I’m not picky, but pizza is always a hit.”
Clay chuckles, and the sound fills me with warmth. “Sounds good. I’ll text you when I’m on my way.”
“Thank you, Clay.”
“My pleasure.” Clay ends the call and I collapse on my couch.
That really just happened.
Chapter 6
Clay
When I gotthe text from Milo, I didn’t think it was meant for me, but I hoped it was.
Izzy wipes her brow and nods towards my phone. “What was that about?”
“Milo.”
Izzy’s grin widens and I swear her eyes sparkle with mischief. “Ohhhh?”
“I gave him my number last night after we parted ways.”
“After you parted ways. Love it.” She clasps her hands together and brings them to her chin. “What are your plans tonight? Tomorrow?Forever?”
“You’re getting a little carried away. He’s fun to talk to.” And I wouldn’t mind talking to him every day. “He’s sweet, incredibly talented, and I fear doesn’t know his worth.”
“You…” She wiggles her finger at me. “Want to show him what a priceless gem he is? Am I right?”
“Bingo.” I tap my nose.
“Psychic.”
I roll my eyes. “Observant, andyou know all my secrets.”
“True. True. Anyway, are you still planning on going over to your sister’s today?”
“Yeah, I have time. We’ve done everything we can until the rest of the supplies get here, so I wanted to sneak over and say hi and everything. I really appreciate?—”
