“Dancing, mostly. Though I think I’ll go after her and see if she’ll give me a birthday kiss.”

“You’re drunk,” Gabe snapped, and stalked off to find Cady first.

Gabe found her—where else?—deeper in the gardens, having skipped the crowded terrace entirely. “How are you?” he asked, half hoping she’d tell him that she needed to leave straightway to avoid an attack.

But she looked perfectly composed. “I’m fine. You were right, though. It’s loud and hot and not my crowd. What did you discuss with your brother?”

“You, actually.”

“Me?”

“He’s rather taken with you.”

Cady laughed. “What?”

“I’m not joking.”

“But…no.” She made a face. “I mean, I’m sure he’s a very nice person…”

“He’s not,” Gabe said flatly.

“Did I say something to make him think I was interested in him?”

“You’re an unmarried lady of quality with some money. That’s enough.”

“Does he know people say I killed my own father?”

“You could mention that when he calls,” Gabe suggested.

Cady laughed again, but it came out too strident. “Oh, my Lord. What I am going to do?”

“You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to receive him at all.”

“Gabe, can’t you talk to him? Tell him not to bother?”

“That would not be taken well. Viscount Nyle doesn’t like to be told that he can’t have something when he wants it. Plus he thinks I’m after you myself, so he’ll just discount it as jealousy.”

“I expect he’d very upset if he ever found out that we misbehaved in his own house, at his own party.”

“Misbehaved? How so?”

She rose up on tiptoes and whispered her suggestion in his ear.

Well. Gabe was nothing if not accommodating when it came to obeying a lady’s wish. He said, “Come with me.”

He knew his way around the house, of course, and he led Cady around the side and into a part of the building much quieter than where they’d just left.

A flight of steps, some judicious listening at a few doors to ensure they wouldn’t be interrupting anyone else with similar ideas, and then at last, a small sitting room with a key thoughtfully in the lock on the inside of the door.

Then she was in his arms, her mouth hot on his. “Is it safe?” she whispered.

“Hell, no. You’re being very brave.” He opened his mouth and quickly trapped her finger between his teeth, sucking on it.

Cady’s eyes flared and her expression turned lustful. “Please, Gabe,” she breathed.

Turning the key in the lock and then yanking it out, he turned around only to see Cady already sinking to her knees, her hands going to unbutton his falls, and tug his cock free.

She smiled when she ran her hand up and down the length of him. “I always seem to forget how big you are. May I?”
