“You don’t have to come in,” I tell him.

“If you think I’m letting you out of my sight until you’re in your room, think again.”

I don’t contradict him. When we get to the stairs, he puts a hand on my back again. When I finally make it to my room, I turn to him. “Thank you.” His eyes are filled with so much concern, it almost hurts to look at him. “I’ll be good; I just need to sleep it off.”

“Can I please get your number? Just so I can check on you later?”

I don’t even have to think about it. I unlock my phone and hand it to him. A moment later, he passes it back to me. “I put my number in. Will you text me when you wake up? Just so I know you’re okay?”

“I will. Thank you, Zane. I really appreciate your help.” I open the door and step inside my room. I'm not sure I’ve ever been so thankful for a quiet room. After I go to the bathroom to drain all the water I drank, I close the blinds and wrap a pillowcase around my head and lay down. The door to the room opens, and I nearly groan out loud.

It’s quiet a moment, and then I hear Sam’s voice. “What’s wrong with you?”

“I have a bad headache.”

“Did you take anything?”

“I took ibuprofen.” I don’t tell her who gave it to me.

“I’ll try to stay quiet.”

“Thank you.”

“Before you go to sleep, real quick, did you have a good date with Jace last night?” Her voice is so hopeful.

I don’t want to lie, but I also don’t want to talk about it right now. “It was fine.”

“Just fine?”

“Yeah.” And then I close my eyes and pray sleep finds me quickly, so I can sleep off this headache.

Chapter 19

Zane

I stride through the hallway and jog down the stairs, even though it’s physically painful to leave my mate behind, especially when I know she’s suffering. I throw open the door and step outside. “He did something to her.” The words are out of my mouth the second I come to a stop next to Reid. He doesn’t look surprised by my words, confirming that he thought the same thing. He hands me his phone, and I look at the screen where there’s a list of after-effects from date drugs. Drowsiness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, confusion, headache, sensitivity to light, dizziness...she’s got nearly every single one. “I’m going to kill him.” Reid takes the phone from my hand.

“Nothing happened to her. I brought her home and got her safely to her dorm.” His words do little to ease the rage burning through me at what could have happened. He meant to do my mate harm in a way that is pure evil. My rage increases, and my wolf slams against the barrier I’ve kept him behind. Reid puts a hand on my shoulder. “She’s safe. Nothing happened to her.”

“Nothing except she’s got a terrible headache and feels awful. I'm going to find him and teach him a lesson.”

Reid snorts. “Will he be alive when you’re done?”

I don’t bother answering that. I know what my choice would be. “Any idea where he lives?”

“No, but we can find out.”

I reach out to Quint.I need you..

Where?Quint asks immediately.

Outside Evie’s dorm.

On my way.That’s from Quint.

It doesn’t take him long to get to Evie’s dorm. He comes over to where Reid and I are standing, a good distance from the dorm but still within eyesight of the front door. I cross my arms over my chest and fill them in. “We’re pretty sure Jace gave Evie something last night.”

“What?” Quint asks.
