It’s been a few days since Halloween, and my mind and heart are both a mess of warring emotions. I haven’t reached out to Riggs because he asked me not to, and I didn’t have anything to say to Drew, at first.
This morning after Jordan left for campus, I texted Drew, knowing I couldn’t wait any longer to have this conversation with him.
The doorbell rings and my stomach sours, knowing who is on the other side of it. I walk slowly and twist the knob, pulling it open to reveal a very distraught-looking Drew Cole on the other side.
“Drew,” I say quietly, but something in my tone must be harsh because he flinches before moving his eyes up to meet mine. His eyes are sad and almost desperate, like he’s pleading with me not to do what I’m about to.
