“Aww, Finn. You do care!” I teased him. He opened his eyes to slits and scowled at me, his yellow and green eyes glowing. The big softie.

“What about Lucky?”

Finn opened his eyes more fully. “What do you suggest? She can’t stay at you guys’ house until everyone is in custody.”

I smiled, and it must have looked devious and slightly evil because Finn winced noticeably.

“Have her stay at Officer Steele’s house.”

Finn stared at me, and as tired as he was, he was no dummy. He smiled a weary smile. “He’s sweet on her, huh?”

“Yep, and she likes him too. But she’s stubborn about the people she lets into her life because of her so calledcurse.”

Finn stood, and just about everything cracked as he stretched. Still looking like he’d been drug through a war backwards, he pulled out his phone and dialed Lucky.

Before he stepped out, I said, “Finn?”

He turned.

“I liked your heart boxers.”

Finn smiled and left, Rhys growled, and Draven laughed.

I smiled as I closed my eyes.

Slumber party at Finn’s house. Sounded fun.

Chapter14

Dice

Finn lived in a forested part of Moonhaven Cove. Close enough to the water that we could hear it in the distance, but not close enough to be able to see it. Moonhaven Cove was built on one side like an Italian shoreline with homes and trees on a bluff, and the main part of the town was on the interior where there were lots more homes and businesses. There were also a ton of trees. It was Oregon, after all.

I followed Finn to his cabin in the woods and pulled in behind him, shutting off the engine of my bike and palming my keys. I swung my leg over and stepped onto the driveway that was littered with pine needles and dirt, taking a deep breath. You could smell the ocean here, but the smell of the pines surrounding us was by far the strongest scent, and it smelledamazing.

The cabin looked like it was made from pine and stained a dark walnut color. It washugewith a covered porch that wrapped completely around the outside, not just the front. The front door was ahead of us, but I could see some other fun things to the side.

“Can I get a tour before we settle in?” I asked Finn, and he nodded, still looking tired. I felt bad for the guy. Since I’d come to Moonhaven, it seemed like I needed himall the time. And when he tried to get some sleep, I either called him or sent Naut after him. I told myself I would do my best not to need him for a bit, atleastuntil the poor guy caught up on sleep! Never mind that it wasn’t my fault, and that it was literally his job, I still felt bad.

We went up the steps, but instead of going inside, he took me around the back. There was a river running through his backyard. The covered porch on this side had a comfy outdoor seating area with squishy outdoor seats, a bbq grill, a marbled blue and white hot tub, and a fire pit with a metal mesh cover over it.

I whistled. Finn wasn’t loaded. At least, I didn’t think he was, but this cabin was stocked with all the fun goodies. I wondered if he’d built it himself. I side-eyed him in speculation.

“Yes, I built it myself,” Finn said with a laugh.

“You take all the fun out of my curiosity.”

He shook his head at me and opened a slider door in the back. “It’s just unlocked?” I asked, bewildered.

He shook his head. “I have it warded. The minute I step foot on the property all my doors unlock.”

“What if someone is coercing you at gunpoint onto your own property?”

Finn’s eyes turned steely. “They’d better have an army right behind them.”

Okaythen.

We entered and I looked around in interest, making noises of surprise under my breath. Finn smirked at me. “What? I’m just surprised. This is super cozy. I wasn’t expecting that!”
