“What do you want, Cassian?”
He growled back at me. “I haven’t decided yet.”
I bucked beneath him, trying to move from underneath him, but he’d got me well and truly pinned. He laughed softly, clearly enjoying his victory over me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “I hate you.”
“The feeling is mutual, I assure you.” His dragon made his voice deeper, and I could feel the gravelly roughness reverberating through the point where his chest met mine. I must be fucking psycho, but my nipples tightened at the friction it caused.
Cassian shifted his weight, and I felt his erection press against my thigh. I must have a death wish because clearly, my mouth was not on board with wanting to survive.
I rolled my hips up against his. “Are you enjoying this, Cassian? Does fucking with me turn you on?”
He let out a noise that was somewhere between a groan and a snarl. “Do you know what happens to the little girl that teases the dragon?”
I smiled sweetly up at him. “She stabs him repeatedly?”
“No, she gets eaten.”
“Well, if you want to go down on me, all you have to do is ask.”
His face morphed into disgust. Yep, I was definitely finding my inner psycho this morning. Perhaps I should tell Cassian that he would have been better off waiting until after my morning coffee if he wanted to have a somewhat sensible conversation.
“Perhaps I should just save us all the hassle and kill you now?”
“At least I wouldn’t have to listen to you complain and whine anymore. That would definitely be a blessing.”
He groaned, clearly getting frustrated with my snarky comments. “What is wrong with you?”
“I will try and put this in a way so that it doesn’t hurt your feelings… You annoy the ever-living fuck out of me. You’re an asshat, Cassian. And unless you’re going to kill me or cart me off to your basement then you can piss off.”
I could tell he was torn between the two options, and for a worrying moment I thought he really was going to kill me, but he eventually climbed off me and I dragged sweet air into my lungs. He was heavy and having his full weight on my chest had restricted my ability to breathe.
I jumped to my feet and glared at him. I could feel his slow, simmering rage as he stared back at me.
“You should be careful who you taunt, Princess. I’m not a man you want on your bad side. I will quite happily tear you to pieces and enjoy doing it.”
I could believe that. His soulless eyes terrified me, and his threat had my heart pounding in my chest. I swallowed, my throat thick with fear and twisted desire. I hated how he could make me fear him and want him all within the space of a few minutes.
He gave me one last derisive look before stepping out of my room and closing the door softly behind him. I suppose there was one good thing to come out of this: my day could only get better.
***
Nope. Turns out my day could get worse. I’d been told I had to wear a GPS tracker like a goddamn convict and that I couldn’t leave the base on my own. Torsten had tried to tell the team that I would never be alone, but I don’t think that helped my case very much. However, I had managed to make them see that if I was wearing a GPS tracker surely they could find me wherever I went. This little argument resulted in me obtaining a list of places I was allowed to go safely. It consisted of three places: the base, the Med Bay and the coffee shop. Anywhere else and I needed someone from the team to accompany me. Apparently, Torsten wasn’t enough protection in their eyes.
At least the tracker came with a communication device, which meant I could call Rae and organise a much-needed coffee and catch up. I needed my best friend and cake. Lots of cake. I was more than happy to go and eat my feelings in the guise of chocolatey goodness.
The Pumpkin Patch was a quaint little coffee shop in the middle of the town square and the smell of ground coffee wafted through the air as soon as I opened the door. I breathed in deeply and I could feel the tension ebb from my shoulders as I wandered deeper into the shop.
“You look like you need something sweet but with a bit of a kick.”
I looked behind the counter and found a woman with bright purple hair and violet eyes looking at me with an ear-splitting grin plastered across her face. Warmth radiated from her jovial face and I instantly relaxed.
“That sounds like heaven. Have you got any chocolate cake?”
She laughed musically. “Yes, I will get you a big slice but be warned, it will reduce you to orgasmic moans while you eat it.”
“Sounds perfect.”
